This was one of the best campiest shows of the 1960’s. It was a phenomenon at the time. The list of actors and actresses that were guest criminals is astounding. Everyone wanted to be part of Batman. The show was only on 3 years with 120 episodes yet everyone knows this show and the theme song over 60 years later. How many shows in tv history can say that. Not many!! Not many at all.
@markfryer98803 ай бұрын
I think that it being filmed in colour had a lot to do with it's first success. Take for example the difference between the pilot of Get Smart, filmed in black and white, and the rest of the series filmed in colour. The pilot looks so aged and that was the same for other shows filmed in black and white. They may have had initial success but they weren't going to succeed as well in syndication once shows filmed in colour reached the syndication stage. It is thus constant repeating of shows in syndication which has built up a vast audience with familiarity with these shows. Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
@edwardcricchio610627 күн бұрын
@@markfryer9880 You are exactly right my friend. One of the draws of the biggest Hollywood stars at that time was the fact that Batman was filmed in color, as we say on this side of the pond. In fact, before each show, the Batman logo comes on the screen, with the words, "In Color" underneath the logo. This was to tell the saps without color tv that they were missing something extraordinary.

Rubén O. Roldán you do know this show was a comedy right? It wasn’t meant as a serous portrayal. It was always done with the intention of being a comedic campy show. So in that sense yes this dark knight is a joke because that’s what the great Adam West and co were going for all along. People who legitimately think they were being serious need their head examined

To be fair, in the comics Batman never drinks alcohol as it impairs parts of the body's functions. He only drinks protein shakes, juice, coffee, tea, milk, and water. The man's a total square.

It's honestly sad that so many people think the comedy in this show is unintentional. Like, people today genuinely think that stuff like the Bat-"Object" gags and Robin's "Holy..." catchphrase were a product of their time and not just a funny thing the writers thought of.

In his autobiography, Adam West recounts the filming of this scene. He's giggling and gyrating, and this studio suit was on set, after the call of "cut", the suit says "Batman doesn't dance like that." Adam responded, "He's drugged. How do you dance when *you* are drugged?!" The suit spun on his heel and stomped off.
