Batman & Robin is honestly my second favorite Batman film. I remember watching a rerun of it on TV and the scene where Batman asked Freeze for help completely blew my mind. I think this film introduced me to the no killing rule and the more compassionate side of the character and I'll forever be grateful to it for that.

There is some is some really good stuff in B&R. I love the scene where Bruce comes to visit Alfred after he has become bedridden due to his illness. The way Clooney & Gough play that scene is beautiful. I do not know why it is not respected more it really is one of the best Alfred and Bruce moments in any Batman film. The way Bruce says "I love you old man" is just so heartfelt and genuine.

Even if Batman and Robin was disastrous, I can't actually blame Schumacher for the film at all. He and his crew were forced to fulfill Warner's orders because they still wanted parents to buy toys for their children in a clueless way. Plus, Scumacher was humble enough to admit to doing it all wrong, unlike a certain, childish asshole who thinks his take on DC was misunderstood, too complex.

As for Batman & Robin, I was not happy with it when it came out, but I still got all the cards and articles in magazines and books, ( I have a collection of binders with cards etc...) and I would always say to naysayers, "I am a Batman fan! I will always collect all things Batman!" Now, as an older fan with more movies to enjoy, this one just becomes another episode of a larger story. I find many things I like about it. Another good video dude. Never put down your old videos because you were still learning the tricks of the trade on youtube, and I enjoy coming back to those old videos. I was a kid who liked Batman and Robin in the late '90s, but I don't see it the same way as I did back then. I can at least watch it as a movie that's so bad it's entertaining. Someone recently made a good point that George Clooney actually is decent at playing the playboy persona of Bruce Wayne. I think it was Vee Infuso who said that. One thing I'm really looking forward to is you're getting closer to doing no man's land
@SalazarKnight

No Man's Land is going to take a while yet and it's definitely going to be a challenge, even bigger than Knightfall! Also, I know that my old videos are part of my growing process, but whenever I look back at them I am 100% positive I could make them better now. And in this environment of hugely competitive media of online video creation, a creator needs to stand out above the rest to succeed and the only way to do that is with high quality videos. Don't get me wrong, I love my old videos for what they represent for me and the community, just not so much for how they are presented to new viewers.

The Perfect Cut at 12:16 !! Holy Cutting Skills Batman!!! What a wonderful Video again. May I ask for a favor? I always wanted to see a proper Batman The Animated Series documentary, and yes I know there exists one which can be considered as "fine". But I want to feel the magic and the historical relevants of this favorite interpretation of batman of mine. With the beginnings, the impact, the episodes, the creators, the toys, the 90s feel and everything in between in movie length quality. And if someone can do that then it's you. I know that is a big project which can take months and I really don't mean this as "please do it!" but more like "Is there any chance that you would be interested in doing something like that?" Great content and a "watch every video" member of your subscribers right here :) usually even watching it on my TV ;)

Hey, thank you so much for writing! As for the question, I'm not sure. I never say never, but also I already made a video about BTAS a couple of years ago. It's a more personal video essay and I think I said almost everything I wanted to say about the show there. I don't really want to repeat myself so soon and as you said, there is a pretty good documentary out there already. That said, I will make a video about the final season of the series, right after the new Silver Age documentary and who knows, maybe someday in the future I will go back and do a complete BTAS documentary. It's just not in the plans at the moment. Again, thank you so much for watching my videos. I'm so glad to hear you enjoy the work I do here. It really means a lot!

Salazar Knight. You've made a truly great video here. I went to see Batman and Robin at the cinema when I was 13. I am going to be honest. I don't hate Batman and Robin. It was good. Not great. It wasn't as good as Batman Forever. I feel the problem with Batman and Robin is that it was too much like the 1960s TV show and it was more a comedy, and it lost the darker aspects of the Batman mythology. I owned it on VHS, and I now own it on DVD. George Clooney was miscast as Batman. Arnold Schwarzenegger was good as Mr. Freeze. But if he didn't have the one-liners and was more serious. Arnold would have played it perfectly. Despite giving an over-the-top performance, Uma Thurman was actually good as Poison Ivy, and she was sexy and did she what she could with what she was given. You had a good message in the video. We are both KZfaqrs and we've grown and evolved over day with our videos. I am an underdog on KZfaqr. I am trying to make the videos I can. It can be lonely being an artist. You my friend have proven KZfaqrs and underdogs have a chance to succeed.

Way back in the '90's the story I heard was that many people felt Batman Returns was too dark and went too far, such as when the Penguin bites a guy's nose and it gushes blood. Sure people want a dark Batman but suddenly it became a series you couldn't take your kid to see. So starting with Batman Forever WB decided to go the kid friendly route by referencing the campiness of the '60's TV show and by introducing kid partner Robin. So basically the Batman movies went from one extreme to the other, from dark to campy.

I was 5 years old when this movie came out. I remember going to see it with my Dad and loving it, and, afterwards, begging Mum to buy me the Batmobile toy to go with the Batman Forever Batwing I'd got for my birthday the year before. As I grew up, I found myself picking more and more at this movie purely based on I enjoyed the later, darker comic stories a lot more. However, while I hold it up as an example of a bad Batman movie, it still holds a special place for me, same as the Adam West Batman I used to watch reruns of with Dad as a kid. Both still have pride of place in my collection of Batman Blu-Rays, and I still watch Batman and Robin once a year. Partly to remind myself, in this age of adaptations of varying quality and accuracy to the source material, of how bad it can be, but also for that nostalgia hit. Congratulations sir, you hit my feelings as someone who was part of the target demographic for this movie when it released right on the bullseye. You've earned my subscription today 🎉

I've gone to the theaters for every single Batman film since the first one in 89. After the opening scene in B&R I knew that this film was going to be troubled. I can't remember a more disappointing trip to the movies. But I was much younger then. After becoming a big Mr Freeze fan from TAS I've always envisioned Patrick Stewart to play him. Put him in a suit with those red goggles and it'd be perfect. He's supposed to be a tragic villain, Stewart could pull that off brilliantly. I do remember the comic tie ins with B&R. Those were not bad, but they were closer to source material than the movie was.

But the reason that I enjoy Batman & Robin is because I was introduced to Batman through reruns of the 1966 TV series, and for the longest time, that was the only Batman that I was allowed to watch as I had younger siblings who weren't old enough to see Batman '89 and Batman Returns yet. Okay, thats true but they seem to forget the fact that this was not an immediate follow-up to those movies, BATMAN FOREVER was so why not hate that one instead? Thats the one that really changed the tone, not this one. After Batman Forever you should really know what to expect with B&R so why the disappointment?? I was a teenager when Batman and Robin came out. I had loved the two Tim Burton movies, but Batman Forever didn't thrill me. Batman Forever gave me a good idea of what to expect from a sequel, and so I wasn't disappointed when I saw Batman and Robin. Actually my first exposure to Batman was the Adam West version, and so the silliness didn't even strike me as odd. I'm looking forward to you revisiting the silver age of Batman -- although I think your old videos are still worthwhile, even if they aren't as good as your newer ones.* But anyway, the silver age certainly isn't a bright spot for The Dark Knight, but it's at least interesting in its own way -- having such different sensibilities. @@SalazarKnight Thanks for the compliment, although I don't know what I've done to deserve it haha. Oh, and my one recommendation is you check out the World's Finest comics from the silver age. Those are probably the 'highest quality' Batman stories of that time period -- albeit it's mainly because they're Superman stories where Batman plays second-fiddle.

I didn't see this movie when it came out and instead read the comic adaptation. I recognized that it wasn't a great story, but not worthy of the hate the movie received. Then I tried to watch the movie, and I couldn't believe all the cartoon sound effects assaulting my ears. I turned it off. I don't think I've actually watched the whole thing to this day.

Can you do the fifth Batman movie that was supposed to happen in 1999 but didn’t happened, because of the failure of the 1997 Batman and Robin, there was 2 different titles, Batman Triumphant, Batman Unchained etc. George Clooney, Chris O’Donald, Alicia Silverstone were all coming back, scarecrow was going to be the villain, along with Harley Quinn written as the Joker’s daughter, Batman sees hallucinations of the villains of the past he defeated, the Joker(Jack Nicoleson), Penguin(Danny DeVito), Catwoman(Michelle Phieffer)Two-Face(Tommy Lee Jones)and the Riddler(Jim Carrey) all coming back, it was very close to happen, but Joel Schumacher and Warner Bros couldn’t agree on this because like I said, the Batman and Robin film was a failure, I was 9 years old and I used to like it as a kid, but looking back at the movie over the years, it turned out that it was awful, I say Superman 4 was way worse than Batman and Robin, I think it’s second worst superhero movie next to Superman 4.

@@AAvsar-xr1rf you seem to be missing the point. Both are bad, but only BvS is unwatchable. And you seriously think “oh they explain it” is an excuse for the terrible writing in BvS? The explanations are equally dumb. BvS is a train wreck that doesn’t understand the characters it’s adapting, lives in a faux mature edgelord mindset, and has massive plot holes. In 2022, before The Batman came out, I rewatched every theatrical Batman movie made. BvS was the only one I felt like turning off. Hell, even 2017’s Justice League was better than it. You prefer BvS, good for you. Continue enjoying it. But you’ll never convince me that it isn’t the worst Batman movie ever.
@Ksawarrior
@Ksawarrior Жыл бұрын
@@AAvsar-xr1rf 🤣🤣🤣 You really said that with a straight face. Okay, let’s play, but I’ll be brief and not do EVERYTHING wrong with BvS because I don’t have time. Lex’s plan is so convoluted and filled with moments where it could have gone wrong and only makes sense if he read the script ahead of time, also only works if Batman and Superman are morons, which they end up being. Batman suddenly being all about killing makes no sense when you realize he still lets Joker live after killing Robin. Wonder Woman only exists to fight, give minor exposition and set up her own movie. Batman still kills after sparing Superman even when the idea that he’s “learned” from his bloodthirsty mistakes. Bruce Wayne receives creepy messages implying his ex employee blames him, doesn’t do the detective thing he’s supposed to and dig into it after the explosion. Oh yeah, and the entire “I can dream the bad future” sequence, including the hilariously stupid first appearance in a movie of the freaking Flash (now with edgy armor) is terrible, goes nowhere, and has no actual baring on the plot of the actual movie itself. Ma Kent telling Clark he doesn’t owe the world anything, which should never be something she says because Superman gets his morals from the Kents. Speaking of, Pa Kent showing up as a ghost just to essentially tell Clark “helping people just causes problems.” That’s just off the top of my head. Look, I get it, Batman in that movie bares the barest superficial resemblance to Frank Miller’s Batman, and that book probably blew your mind when you first read it (even though it’s done damage to Batman as a character in the long run). But again, Batman & Robin may be dumb, but it’s a logical kind of dumb.
@Ksawarrior
@Ksawarrior Жыл бұрын
@@AAvsar-xr1rf BvS made Batman look like a meathead moron who put more into his fists than his mind. And it’s telling that you had no response to the bad writing beyond “I don’t like the bat credit card joke.” In the end, it doesn’t matter. You think BvS is better, you can go and watch it. You came onto my comment to try and argue against my opinion, which is ultimately pointless because you’ll never change my mind. It’s something I’ve noticed with most fans of Zack Snyder’s DC films: you take criticism and opinion against any of his movies as some sort of insult toward yourself. I’m done successfully defending my stance on BvS being worse than Batman & Robin. So you have two options: walk away and wait until Salazar Knight gets to Batman v Superman so you can leave a comment gushing how much you like it more than this that I’ll pretty much ignore because I don’t need to change anyone else’s mind to feel valid in my opinions, or keep leaving replies that will result in me ignoring you and potentially blocking you just so I don’t keep getting notifications about you continuing to argue with me for no discernible reason.

It's all the new characters that this film introduced- Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Bane, and Mr Freeze. None of them are developed properly in the film and it gets messy because you don't feel anything particularly for those characters and their exploits. Apart from the Bat credit card, which is ridiculous, Clooney comes out of it well enough; Arnie not so, but it is the script and film direction that deny him a better opportunity

@1:42 Now don't get me wrong you nailed why many of these KZfaqrs are big and obviously Star Wars took the hit from them so badly Disney got the franchise and then ruined it. But these middle aged men were the kids and teens back in 1997 and we all hated it back then for the right reasons. I mean BTAS kinda set the standard back to the concept that children's entertainment doesn't have to exclude adults like the old 30s-early 60s era stuff was. I mean Batman and Robin is more an homage to 60s Batman and I think had they did a suit more inline with that it might have worked but people had expectations for Batman by then. Weirdly in retrospect I don't know why WB thought any of it would work because none of their kids shows at that time were as kiddie as that movie was.

I vividly remember sighing when we got to poison ivy's lair. This movie more than anything else is just boring to me. I think if it wasn't part of the main Batman movies it would have not been so hated. If it had an obvious parody, with a totally new cast, and color pallette and costume design closer to the 66 show

I used to enjoy this film as a kid for a few years but after awhile, I realized I didn’t watch this film much and watched the other Batman movies and shows over Batman and Robin and it wasn’t until I saw Batman Begins I realized why: it’s because I didn’t like the film. Batman and Robin is the kind of film for me where I loved it for a few years after it came out, but later grew to not like it. Regarding the production of the film, had the studio not interfered and try to make it a big toy commercial then the film could have been better. Unfortunately, the film as it is isn’t something I would call good in a serious way, but in a so bad it’s good way. It’s the kind of film that is essentially like the 1966 Batman, yet is supposed to follow the previous three films and because of the light/campy tone, it doesn’t fit. I don’t think George Clooney was good except in the scenes where he was with Michael Gough. He seems to try to do the best he can whenever he’s with Gough, but outside of that he comes across as being quite flat and just walking through his part. Of course the script didn’t anything nor did the interference by Warner Bros. I say let the directors do whatever and if it turns out well great but if it fails then you can blame the director. For me, this is a so bad it’s good film for me. While the parallels to the Adam West show and film are there, it doesn’t fit with the darker and more serious tone that the Tim Burton films had as well as what Batman Forever had at various points. That’s my opinion on the film, but thank you for the video man. It’s a very interesting look at this film.
