This game has the best and most accurate depiction of Bane ever outside the comics. They really managed to expertly portray Bane's intelligence and struggle with Venom as well as his Santa Priscan background in this game.

This game does not get the love it deserves. Everyone lauds City, but Origins has some of the most Year 1 feeling of any Batman game ever.

I must disagree on your touch on Deathstroke fight, it's quite good if you keep the pace, particularly in higher difficulties. Bane is also quite good, I don't really know why you find'em "simple"

Actually underrated tbh, don't know why it got so much hate back when it came out.

Something you talked about Killer Croc looking less gigantic in this game, Killer Croc looking more animalistic is something that is actually very criticized by fans that only started back in the early 2000's. Croc isn't supposed to be a literal giant crocodile man but a guy suffering from a severe skin condition that makes him look like one (I know that sounds pretty silly but it's comics, so we just gotta go with it). In spite of this Waylon is often depicted as having more than scaly skin and is often given a pronounced snout and tail. Which makes no sense, why would a skin condition give a human the literal physical characteristics of a Crocodile?

Origins > Knight, and I'm dying on this hill. The biggest problem with the story was them not being able to restrain themselves from making the Joker the main villain for at least 5 minutes, a mistake Knight would repeat. I think both fans and especially Rocksteady have been way too harsh with this game, to the point of not considering it canon, and not include it in the compilations.

For as in-depth as this is you explain much of the plot completely wrong. Like Bane's memory loss. It's not because he was electrocuted it was the TN-01. Batman said while looking at the notes in Bane's lair it causes severe memory loss.

I actually really liked the Deathstroke fight that solidified the game in my mind as an "Arkham" game but then again I always like the "mirror" fights in video games. I just thought it was super cool to fight someone who had the same button options as you in the game. Overall I liked origins in the lineup and I think if it had come before Asylum it'd be the best in the series in everyone's mind but Arkham City was a very tough act to follow.

I loved Arkham origins. I'm actually kinda mad I don't have it anymore. It was probably the second best in the series in my opinion. They went so in depth with the detective mode that It made really go through the rest of the games with detective mode on constantly to see what kinda stuff I can find

I love origins and I hate that it’s left behind from the others. The “I am the reason criminals breath easier when the sun comes up” gives me chills every time. All in all it’s a good game and i will agree it’s not an improvement over City but I’m still glad it exist

When it first came out Arkham Origins was definitely underrated and does so many things very well and in many cases better than Arkham Knight. The game has a great story and fantastic characterization, with Batman, Alfred, Joker, Gordon and Bane being the standouts, the boss fights are all memorable and the best without a doubt in the Arkham series (although overall the Mr. Freeze fight from Arkham City is the best) and it's certainly better than any boss fight in Arkham Knight or even Arkham Asylum. I'm actually a bit surprised that you liked almost none of them. It's also the only game where you can go to the Batcave. Not to mention that it also has the best DLC out of all the Arkham games with Cold Cold Heart. I also adore the music and soundrack composed for the game by Christopher Drake. In last few years people have gone back to the game and have praised it a lot more for its story, characterization and nuances in its story. I disagree that Arkham Knight handled the detective part of the game and crime scene reconstruction better than Arkham Origins and in fact I'd say that it was hardly utilized in Arkham Knight. I would also say that it's the only game in the series where Batman's character arc feels prevalent and integral to the story.

To be honest Origins is the best in the series. And I think most fans refer to it as the Arkhamverse not the Arkham trilogy. Because it has a movie attached, and soon a fifth game.

It's not the electricity that makes him forget, it's the use of titan venom which makes him big like how he was in Asylum. It's the crutch of his character, his intellect is hemorrhage by his drug use and addiction

When anybody asks me what my favorite Arkham game is. I always say Asylum. I love the vibe of being trapped in the haunted house. Then, one day I realized. When I wanna put in a Batman game. This is the one I always go to.

I know you've completed the games you've done retrospectives for but I wanted to ask if you have listened to all the interview tapes from the Arkham games? If not I highly recommend watching them because they offer some of the best conversations in the entire Arkham series.

Personally I loved Arkham Origins. It's not as good as Asylum and City, and Origins remains the only Arkham game where I experienced game-breaking bugs. I think it was a total of three times (out of many, many more playthroughs than that) where I experienced the same bug, where when going through a door the environment around me disappears. Leaving and reloading the game causes Batman to be infinitely falling in a void. The only way around it is to 1: delete the save, or 2: be fast enough to restart before autosave kicks in when you see the environment vanish. That said, I thought the story was pretty good (I wasn't too angry about it being yet another Joker story since IMO the Arkham series is all about Batman's rivalry and twisted connection to the Joker), the boss battles were great (really the only boss battle I liked from the other Arkham games was Mr. Freeze), and I loved the portrayal of Bane in this game. IMO Paul Dini wasn't too great at writing Bane in Asylum, where he felt out of character.

Origins is my personal favourite Arkham game. It has its performance flaws, clearly recycles a lot from and is was an obvious cash grab, but the story for fantastic. The story had great set pieces, was very punchy, tense, escalating, with Batman having great moments with all the characters. City’s story by comparison feels very unfocused.

If I remember correctly, I felt the combat in this game was somewhat different from the other Arkham games in terms of the timing of strikes and countering attacks. It was a pretty decent game but the Rocksteady ones are still my favorite.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention how this game actually features a multiplayer mode, where you play as goons on either jokers or bane’s team. I remember there was the ability to be Batman and robin while the two teams are fighting and it felt pretty cool to be sneaking around real people rather than the ai in single player.

Saying this early in the video, to just state my thoughts. I find that all the games are pretty iterative of the first. Similar mechanics, similar devices and Origins is no different. That said, I found the story to be the best of the whole shebang of 4 games. No knock on the other stories (well, maybe a little bit Arkham Knight) but I really enjoyed this versions introduction to the universe. I feel like people are eager to not give WB Montreal much credit, to their discredit nobody even includes in with the “trilogy”, but I think the game is pretty good, if not very similar to the previous, it still had a lot to offer. As always, in my opinion.

I have played all these games on PC and this is the only one where the combat works for me. I always quite enjoyed it.

Played this game last year for the first time and I was utterly surprised at how good it actually was. It easily has the best story out of all the Arkham Games and the Deathstroke boss battle is my favorite out of the entire series. It's funny how the few shortcomings the game has got shat upon back in the day when you consider what crap in the AAA landspace gets defended by players these days.

I happened to enjoy this game Deathstroke was actually fun for me just because of the cinematic nature of fight. However hearing your point about all the other games tailored their environments to the boss fight just leaves me wanting more now lol

I wish the dev teams next game was a continuation for Arkham Origins, with the first Robin as a character you can swap to (like in certain segments in Arkham Knight), maybe meeting other bigger or smaller characters from the comics for the first time. Instead they made Gotham Knights... Sad. On the game: as others said too, the Deathstroke and Bane fights felt pretty good I really liked them, idk what's wrong with them. AO improved enough compared to City to be a good release. Also the Anarky story is pretty interesting too. I think he was a character made for this game, and I like how he's like a version of Bruce if he wasn't so collected and restrained.

As far as game series go, especially super hero themed games, every series has a "black sheep" and great series are far and few between and therefore I was and am glad that this game was made. Without comparing it to the first 2, it is a good game, which for the black sheep in the series is not a small feat. In some well known series the least liked game is (in some cases) not even good when taken outside of its series. Looking forward to hear your thoughts.

Gotta disagree about the boss battles being bad. Even in 2013 when the reviews ravaged this game, they tended to applaud the boss battles. Deathstroke was a great fight, batman meeting something close to his equal. Bane's boss fights were much more intense then the dumb running man of arkham asylum, and the final ban boss fight was epic. The one I would say was very disappointing was black mask. Maybe deadshot, though I did like the cat and mouse aspect of it.

33:32 This bit feels a bit... odd. So Batman takes Electrocutioner's gloves despite the gloves still being on the Electrocutioner's character models. And Batman's shock gloves are painted black now. :P Here's how I think they should've done this: 1. Remove the gloves from the Electrocutioner's character model. 2. Keep the original colour of the gloves for the duration of the hotel mission. 3. Show Batman spray paint the gloves black in the Batcave. Nitpick, I know. But I enjoy attention to detail.

I never played that Batman Arkham game that you drove the Batmobile around because I had a PS3 for the longest time before upgrading to a PS4 & I'm still a generation behind lmao but I played the shit out of this game. This game had that New Game + One Life that was really fun, until you got to that Bane fight midway through the game. Bane must of reset me 4 or 5 times before I actually managed to beat him, same with Deathstroke, for one of the first fights he made me reset a few times too This game was super fun, I really enjoyed it

While I prefer Arkham City, I like Arkham Origins. I think it's a good 'origin' story with mechanics just familiar enough for fans of AC to jump right into it. I own the Windows PC version via gog, due to preferring NON-DRMed software when available.

The only issue I have with origins over the others, is the traversal in the open world. Constantly hitting the height ceiling, places you cant grapple that you could in Arkham city etc.

It's biggest misstep IMO was making The Joker the main antagonist. He was already the main antagonist of the previous 2 games, and was going to have a huge role in the upcoming one. Wtf were they thinking with all this Joker oversaturation?

I like Origins way more than Knight and City. The only one better than Origins is Asylum to me. I really wish they do a remaster version of AO. Also the bat suit in this one is my favorite out of all 4 games.

Never could finish the side missions. When I opened a door I clipped through the floor. Normally this wouldn't be that big a deal but it saved as I was opening the door so it just kept reloading me falling. Luckily I finished the main game already.

Lol, it's really funny. I have 100% trophies unlock on every batman game (I played them beyond the platinum trophy) and even the blackgate game I played it on PS Vita. But the comment here is that the only part that I TRULY enjoy from origins was the deathstroke fight. I think you needed to go more into the fight and not just wait for a counter, is a really intense fight when you get in, I remember my fingers were crushed when I finally beat him and it was really pleasing to see him fall. Maybe is because I'm also a huge fan of souls like games (also I have the platinum of all of them) but this kind of intense boss fights really put me in a good mood.

“in-story” it doesn’t make sense why Batman doesn’t recreate the Shock Gloves, and make them a standard part of his suit. Also…if like to see a realistic depiction of what his utility belt should look like at the end of each of the games.

The whole concept of iterative sequel being bad, transformative sequel being good isn't something I agree with generally, so your frequent complaints about reused mechanics or gadgets I find myself disagreeing with. Also it did launch on Wii U, btw, at a lower price point due to not having the multiplayer mode and having Cold, Cold Heart DLC be cancelled for the platform. Curious to see if you'll cover Blackgate or skip straight to Knight.

The problem with Origins, is that if it was just on its own, and didn't have to live up to the other games. It would be great. Excellent even. But for being a part of the series, it doesn't compare to them.
