Always Nerdy

Always Nerdy

Күн бұрын

Even before release of their first game Batman: Arkham Asylum, Rocksteady Studios couldn't help but tease their plans for their ambitious sequel, Batman Arkham City. This game would take place within a quarantined zone of Gotham City, holding all of Batman's worst enemies. This game would also act as more of an open world sandbox, allowing to Batman to glide freely around the city for the first time in the series. Rocksteady aimed to give fans the Batman game they've always wanted, and really pushed their limits to deliver on that goal. As a result, Batman Arkham City is held up as the best game in the series by many fans, and in this video, we'll examine why, as well as whether its deserving of the title.
Always Nerdy is a KZfaq channel dedicated to all things nerdy, with a focus on comic book game retrospectives for both DC and Marvel. I'm always open to suggestions for games you'd like to see covered, and I hope to eventually cover them all.

If you didn’t notice, when Bruce is fighting in the beginning of the game without the batsuit, his fighting style isn’t as advanced or as brutal as Batman’s even after he breaks out of the cuffs. It’s a nice detail. Another detail in the game: if you fail to perform a beat down on the shark and get eaten, the fail screen tells you to use your shark repellent

With the pregnancy retcon, I always theorised (somewhat darkly) that Harley lost the baby following the jokers death, and the multiple negative tests shows her desperation now that there is no way she'll ever be able to see any part of the joker live again. This piled on top of her grief over losing the Joker is what makes her so grief stricken and angry during the DLC. There's not particularly any evidence for this, but I think it works and adds to the darker side of the Arkham verse we see after the Jokers death.

What's crazy about the Mr Freeze fight, which from what I understand was an unintended affect, is that Oracle is supposed to send you information about how to perform different types of stealth takedowns. Due to one reason or another, Oracle will prolong sending this information to the player, sometimes not sending it at all, which is either due to a glitch, or some other mechanic, perhaps the game seeing how many different take downs the player already knew. I personally enjoy the feature being like this, as it adds greater difficulty to what I think is the best boss fight in the series

Oddly enough I just opened the menu the first time for a list of options, and just kinda threw together a strategy slowly. What I liked more than just the different strategies was how you had to do some in a kind of order otherwise you'd never get to do them. Like you do a silent from behind, then he does the ice shards, but then try a corner or ledge takedown and he'll make a persisting shield meaning then you can't glide or line launch into him unless you can disrupt the shield or distract him. It was so nerve-racking going on Hard cause you had to do like 8 takedowns iirc, so trying to find a consistent order was tricky yet satisfying.

@@theredscum4202 Mutually agreed, as Catwoman lends perspectives on Protocol 10 and the other Arkham City inhabitants like Ivy or Two Face. It’s just like RE4 Remake now. The game would have felt more complete story wise on day one had Ada’s “Separate Ways” been included at launch. Allowing players to see other events that transpired around Leon’s perspective without his knowledge. Now we have to wait months just to see what else happened around his story that may have affected the outcome.

@TheRealAdaWong
@TheRealAdaWong Жыл бұрын
@@theredscum4202 Absolutely, it is always better in the current gaming climate when games are fully developed. Separate Ways originally arrived later as port to PlayStation consoles. So I personally expected Separate Ways to be DLC for RE4R when they announced the remake. The new story will be better for the delay for sure ✨
@TheRealAdaWong
@TheRealAdaWong Жыл бұрын
@@theredscum4202 Separate Ways, even now just has so many parallels to Batman media. I think it actually played part in Ada’s redesign for RE4 Remake. As Capcom completely redesigned her with leather thigh high heels, a more calm attitude and vigilante demeanor. She’s less romanticized and more suave with Leon and Luis, as a spy would in her age. But specifically, she and Leon are almost more cooperative than manipulative. This was a dynamic in Batman 2022 between Cat and Bat. They overcame their emotions to perform better as a unit by the climax. I can only imagine some of the hookshots, new perspectives and scenarios they’re going to give Ada since she doesn’t interact with Krauser, and Umbrella’s downfall possibly being narrated through her story.

As unpleasent as it was to see I really liked the way Batman treats Robin in this. We already know that he put Tim through more hellish training than the others. It feels like Bruce has incredibly high hopes and expectations for Tim. Not just to eventually become his equal but to surpass him in every way eventually. The harsh treatment and constant scolding is because Batman believes in him more than he ever has anyone else, he sees incredible potential and wants Tim to realise it. In a wierd way Batman treating him so horribly is a mark of great respect.

When I hear Kevin Conroy doing different voice styles for Bruce Wayne, Batman, and even Hush, it just makes me wonder how well an animated Dark Knights Metal would be if he did a few voices for the other Batmen. Of course, it would be a nice touch to have other Batman actors do some voices, but it would be chilling to hear Kevin’s voice as manic and laughing as the Batman Who Laughs, distorted and monstrous as the Devastator, bloodthirsty and prideful as the Merciless, or even dark and menacing as Barbatos himself.

Truly one of the best video games ever made. I’ve replayed it countless times and it never gets old. The amount of depth and respect to the Batman universe that the developers put into Arkham City is incredible

Just found your channel today because I've been super into retrospectives recently and I watched both the Arkham videos before this. I love the content and even though I haven't watched the Arkham Knight part 1 I can't wait for the next one. Keep up the good work and excited for future videos.

Amazing video as always loved that we got a nice long one to tide us over until the next one. And if the Arkham knight video is four hours long, you won't see me complaining.

I never noticed how bruce treated tim but after knight and finding out what happened to jason in this universe it’s funny that I never really thought about it as bruce being a bit more distant from tim out of fear of loosing another robin. Also if I remember he replaced jason after about 3 months of his being missing and i think it was just too soon for bruce and he hadn’t quite grived enough. Its interesting just how well all 4 of these games fit one another
