In this episode, Batman gets hooked up on drugs!! Quite literally, Batman becomes addicted to a drug that increases his strength... a drug called Venom!

if this story took place soon after Jason's death then it would of worked a lot better. it would of made sense that batman is focusing on his strength and not using his brains due to the trauma of losing Jason. great video!

Venom is a very dangerous drug in the Batman universe. Venom makes people strong but it also turns the user into something they're not.

One of the very best early Legends of the Dark Knight stories! That was a great era for comics! I miss when comics this good were still possible. The industry has declined so much since these golden days.

😅 this sentence has been spoken by every single generation proceeding you and will be spoken by every generation after you. Things aren't getting worse they are becoming less like you. As Time Marches forward the world evolves and becomes a different place. What was once cool is uncool and what was once uncool cool. It's the cyclical cycle of things in popular culture. Comics are no more worse or better than they ever have been but your perception of the world has not changed while the perception of the Zeitgeist has.

This story reminds me of that episode of Spiderman TAS, the black suit, were Peter becomes more agresive and sadistic, just whit Batman and insted of an alien parasite, just takes a pill

To be fair with Batman using his muscles instead of his head when trying to save the girl this was early in Batman's career. In a way it could've taught Batman a lesson.

New, interesting stories from Batman's past. All other comic youtubers have the same new stories or the big hits people already know. Forced addiction or not, it was interesting to see something NEW (to me anyway.) Your Bat insite is very entertaining as well. :) I'll share this channel all I can. You need more views.

This story is somehow long with 5 parts and also feels rushed. I liked it when i read as an adolescent. But now as an adult i really think it got old and clichê. I agree that it carries the seed of the origin of Bane and venom and Santa Prisca, like a unpolished prologue of batmans fall.

This story shares quite a lot of similarities with Iron man: demon in a bottle where Tony Stark goes through a ton of hell dealing with alcoholism. Once and a while it's great to see Superheroes fight such dreadful issues like addiction.

You are absolutely right it was a bit too convenient for Batman to use his muscles to save the girl instead of his intellect but then suddenly he uses his intellect throughout the course of a story that's pretty odd

Does this comic fit chronologically better right after year one but right before the long Halloween? I’ve read year one, the man who Laughs and now halfway through the long Halloween. I want to read dark Victory next but I’m compelled to go back and read Venom first now

It's somewhere between The Man Who Laughs and The Long Halloween. But don't overthink this. Just read them and enjoy the stories. Continuity is all made up anyways!

This is one of my favorite Batman stories of all time. I have noticed after watching a few of your videos, which I really do enjoy, but it seems your criticism of the stories are often based on a type of logic that would be more indicative of Television programming. Comic book stories operate on comic book logic. If Batman could have saved the little girl, then there would have been no story, no desire for him to be stronger by any means. It's odd you being a comic-book fan and not fully grasping The Narrative Liberty's that comic books employ. They live in their own world not ours

Mr. Knight, do you think batman practically killed those two guys when he flipped the boat in the fourth part? In my opinion, he did. I didn't like to much that, but the fight with the shark was cool.

It's possible, but since he killed the shark later, I'm not 100% convinced they died.

I noticed this too but if you look at that the last panel with them, they’re actually throwing shark bait at the shark to distract it so that they can swim away. I’m pretty sure Batman knew they had the bait, and that’s what he was referring to with his “shark repellent” line.

Hot Take: This story is kinda dull. As much as I love Denny O'Neil's (Shaman is a favorite of mine) writing, this story comes off flimsy in its execution; I think this would've been better if it got cut down to Two to Three issues, got rid of the generic general, and focus on Bruce's internal conflict with the Venom drug.
