I love this scene. Batman explains before the fight that in the original fight he was using pure strength, and he had to accept that he's not the batman he used to be and has to adapt. Therefore, he switches his strategy up and starts acting like, well, batman.

His inner monologue in the original comic (he does it AS he is fighting the Leader), he says in the first fight he was trying to match his savagery and strength, to 'fight like a young man'-- and you're exactly right, he switches it up to match his own weaknesses and the Mutant Leader's strengths-- the Leader has strength? Batman has skill and experience (a more technique-heavy fighting style, rather than just the mostly brute strength approach the Leader uses). The leader has speed? Batman has cunning (like using tricks to negate or lessen the Leader's advantages; like using the nerve strike to disable one of his arms, and taking the fight to the mud pit in order to slow him down; plus cutting him above the eyes, so he has to pause to wipe the blood out of his eyes so he can see, and in the comic it gets even worse-- Batman throws a clump of mud in his eyes right as he tries to wipe his eyes, impairing his vision even more). And as brutal as this fight already is, again, the comic amps it up even more-- Batman eventually kills the Leader's *other* arm (after he gets backhanded with it, he says he 'gets sick of it' and then disables it; implied by using the same trick he used to render the other one useless) before he takes the Leader down to the ground, and breaking his leg (actually, he breaks BOTH his legs, one after the other). A mental quote, from right after he delivers the "I'm the surgeon" line: 'Something tells me to stop with the leg.' *KRAAKKK* 'I don't listen to it.'

Although this movie very good, the graphic novel puts much of the exposition in his head, as if "Batman" is a psychosis rather than an identity Bruce Wayne assumes.

Name me another batman villain that physically gives batman a run for his money. This character's problem is he's kind of dim witted. Vicious and brutal, but still dim witted. Bane combines this character with the usual super villain intellect. Just my 2 cents.

I just want to point out how brilliant what Batman did here was. -He fights him in a mud hole: This considerably reduces the gap in their speed, as Batman is better equipped to move through the mud. Likewise it gives him an escape route if he ever found himself in trouble -Seemingly missing the elbow: For those who don't know, if you're trying to make somebody bleed in a fight, you don't want to catch them flush with an elbow, you want to glance them with the point of the elbow. It bleeds a lot faster that way. If you catch them flush it hurts so much more, but a cut right above the eyes makes it incredibly hard to see and function. Plus a glancing elbow is very hard to defend. -Aiming for the nose: You ever been hit in the nose? Makes your eyes water a whole lot. Makes it even harder to see. -Using dirty tactics throughout: Only an idiot fights fair in a real fight. If there's any advantage you can have in a real fight? You take that as soon as you can. If your opponent has an advantage? Take it away in whatever way you can. Best Batman fight scene ever.

On top of that Leader’s nose was already bandaged so it was an additional weak spot. Not to mention you forgot him taking out one arm by aiming for a nerve cluster in his deltoid muscle

Oddy the thing I liked best about this scene is that he took off his cape, because it just shows that he really has thought this through and even though its animated you wouldn't believe that cape not getting in the way with all the mud weighing him down. coz really the cape is just a hindrance in any fight he's in realistically. It just shows he isn't fucking around with him.

+Jack Hartnett It's not exactly a hindrance in ANY fight. His cape actually has multiple functions. If often confuses opponents when he's dodging (so they'll shoot at his cape thinking it's his body) and conceals his hands for when he wants to pull something out of his belt without someone knowing. For more practical uses, Batman opens his cape to control his falling momentum when he wants to land on something/someone and he often covers himself with it for protection from fire and shrapnel. It's a little more than just a fashion choice :D.

In my opinion, this fight was one of the most brutal and violent fights in the entire DC Animated Universe, but it was such an awesome and satisfying fight to watch. The fight with the Joker in part 2 was a close second, but this one was personal and nasty and a true reminder that just because Batman is old doesn't mean he can't kick major ass.

PurpleGuy Vincent Unfortunately directors don't think of that when making the movie. I'm not going to lie, the 2nd fight in TDKR was pretty lame. They could have made it a lot more epic than two guys fighting in front of an building avoiding, dodging, and trading blows. They should have made it like you said. Where Batman adapts to what he has seen and counter a lot of it.

This is what the final fight between Batman vs Bane in the Dark Knight Rises should have been like. A planned out strategic fight instead of Batman fighting the guy that crippled him in the same fashion that got him fucked up in the first place. He got a lucky hit that lead him to best Bane. If it wasn't for that, Batman would have been crippled again for a 3rd time!

Afflecks batman seems much more disturbed and intimidating than Bales, partly cuz of them taking notes of frank millers interpretation of batman. I think Ben is gonna be the best one yet, he's massive, looks mean and is pissed off. "Tell me, do you bleed" all guttural and shit.

I previously suspected the story would go something like 'Bat and superman meet and fight, but when an greater evil emerges, they put aside their differences and fight together. The Justice League is born." Then the trailer with Doomsday came out. The movie is just going to be them throwing each other around for a bit and then doomsday showing up.... working together... "okay supes, you ain't too bad.." credits. Now imagine if they did the BvS fight after all the studio's planned (not necessarily announced) justice league movies and related superhero solo movies. So if they made BvS the very last movie of the current gen, in a situation where anything goes... anything could happen, the audience truly has no idea who will win. Marvel's Civil War is a bit better placed within its timeline.

This is so fucking awesome, one of the best animated fight scenes ever!! Batman is truly masterful here, his opponent is younger and stronger than him (and almost killed him earlier in the film) but he STILL manages to win, through strategic use of his techniques, a careful choice of where to fight and also because hes fucking BATMAN!!!!
