Aang is still a 12 yo boy that has lost everyone, save Bumi, that he's known. He finds and clings to his new family, and then he fears they are abandoning him. He slipped and lied for a few hours. Katara has never seen water bending or met a water bender. She has no idea what she can do or how to do it. The scroll was the first bending instruction she's ever had. Everything else she's learned from trial and lots of error. It's likely that Katara has subconsciously used her water bending to heal herself when she was younger, like anyone she'd think everyone heals as fast as her. Now that she knows how to focus she can heal in seconds. If you remember the first episode she demonstrated she is very powerful but untrained.

Nyla, the shirshu, is a hybrid of wolf, giant anteater, and star-nosed mole. June is voiced by the legendary Jennifer Hale, aka Commander Shepherd from Mass Effect.

Child me had so much beef with Aang i was ready to 1v1 him for hurting Katara (child me was crushing hard on her) and deciding to not use the coolest power Now he can get really frustrating but i really appreatiate his character as a protag for this time period of avatar history

I'm rewatching the first season again with u, its not my favorite season, i think after some part of the second one the series gets really really better and goes on each episode being better. I think i can confidently say episode 15 is one of my least favorites, it seems super out of place like a pause, but its not even a bad episode because avatar kinda has none

Not a bad episode in the slightest but is the same as The Great Divide in terms of relevance to the whole journey, plus it was aired just as often so seen it too many times as a kid. The only reasons episode 15 is not my least favorite is because it has the Aang vs Zuko fight which is IMO among the better fights of Season 1. Super playful and fun, great choreography. And they introduce Jun who is a pretty great passerby character concept.
