Yes I do the same - but so much easier for the charger to effectively do it for you. Can't think why this n-step idea has not been offered before. Same problem with intelligent (sic) 12v lead acid battery chargers, I have to boost flat ones to about 8v before the charger will accept it. This deep discharge happens often when you use them on electric fence units for horse paddocks etc.

Garry Here is the trick . when i have a battery which won't take any charge i do this : Take two knives place a good charged battery & the 0 volt one side by side & connect them parallely + with + & - with - using the knives for about 15 secs. This will wakeup the weak battery .Now it will take the charge with any charger.

No, the Technoline BL700N is superior to the La Crosse charger: it's the internals and programming that matter. Maybe Technoline copied the casing, because at least La Crosse got that bit right. I used the Le Crosse BC-9009 for years, and got it out the other day to remind myself why I stopped using it. The memories came flooding back. I had grown to hate it. I wouldn't even sell it to some poor victim on ebay now. The problem was: it would destroy batteries due to its buggy programming that caused channels to lock up whilst charging. If I went out for the day, I'd return to the display frozen, and the battery in question toasty hot due to overcharging. Sometimes more than one channel would lock up. This eventually destroyed my batteries, which defeated the purpose of having an expensive, supposedly high-quality charger. Whilst the Technoline BL700 was only slightly better, the BL700N is perfect in my view. Put an oscilloscope on one for the duration of a discharge/charge cycle, and you will see its magic. I have four BL700N's now, and just ordered another two. They revive batteries that have been neglected, lost and forgotten about for years, raising their performance to above manufacturer-specified ratings (except for GP, who over-rate their batteries to start with). Give the La Crosse charger the same batteries, and it will quite likely fry them. The number of chargers I've owned over the years, you wouldn't believe! I even designed and built my own. I'm glad I found the BL700N though. I can stop the relentless search now.

The BL700N will recharge a flat battery. The older BL700 won’t.

Put flat battery in place and touch the negative of a charged battery on the negative tab on the charger and link the positive’s on the on the charged battery and the charger with a paper clip for a few seconds to get it to start charging.

by the sounds of it you have the old model 700, the newer 700n will charge flat batteries

Totally wright! To charge completely flat batteries you need the newer BL 700N model witch works great :)
