this is grat well done.. dont listen haters. . you dont need 600 amp if you use them for solar.. yes maybe this method cant wotk for car cold cranking amps.. but imagine 10 or 20 of them buying them for 7 dollars per pcs for scrap.. you only need to work a little bit and yeah.. you have let say 20 batteries * 80 amp hours 1600 amphours ar 12 volts equal to 19200 watthors.. 19.2 kwhours lets say at the worst case you have lost the half capacity because of restoration (they are not new) yes you have built an enotmous 10 kwhours battery bank for 140 dollars..

Will the fully automatic charger allow force charging at 40amps? I can seem only to find the automatic computerized ones everywhere. I can't find one like yours at my local dealers. Also I heard some say I should be looking for a 200amp DC 12 charger (which I can't find one anywhere at all, only 200amp or 250amp 5 second boost on ignition detection) to do it as well or 40amps is good enough?

I've had little to no results from an electronic pulsing desulfator but I've managed to more than double the capacity of old batteries by adding about 10 mls of PURE sulfuric acid to each cell then overcharging it as described in this video. If you're going to try this you MUST use rubber gloves and eye protection and I recommend a hypodermic to add the acid.

Hi I got a used Seal Lead Acid 100ah and when i open the lid it is dry, should i top it up with a normal battery water? Even the battery is dry it still remain at 12.7v . Should i leave it as it is or add battery water into it? A Seal Lead Acid is also known as a AGM battery right? A Gel based right? A gel based would also required battery water too, during recovery?

Deteriorated positive plates are irreversible. What you call hard sulfated plates are most definitely reversible as long as the plate is not deteriorated. However a purpose designed charger is the key and you don’t have one. They are available but pricey. The only people I know that have them are battery manufacturers and a few industrial battery repair shops. It ain’t rocket sience but it ain’t something you hook up and leave on for days either

Thank you for uploading this presentation. I will try and use your technique shown here to bring up one of my old battery to working condition. But there is one thing I am puzzled. Provided bring the battery back up to required voltage and able to crank the car with up to par current, what assurance will I have that the battery will operate all the time while on the road driving or not. It could possibly loose charge so slowly and alternator might not able to charge it up and could get stuck in the middle of desert. I don't believe once the plates are damaged, they will never be like new, unless change them with new plate, the capacity will not be like new. Therefore I do not believe any restored batteries with some form of plate sulfation just can not compete against new batteries unless damaged plates are fully restored like new to provide high degree of internal reaction so the battery will able to put out enough CCA and voltage at all times for extended period without worrying.

You did a good job with the demonstration & explanation. 👍 I am looking for a way to re build batteries. I am all about recycling repairing & repurposing plus a "little frugal" LOL. Around 55 years ago there was a guy in PA that use to sell used batteries that he rebuilt. Well we were on vacation & my uncles car's battery died. Back then there wasn't all these auto parts stores & we were in the Pocono mountains, so we bought one of his batteries. This was for a big ford with a V8 & never had an issue with that battery. Anyway I a looking for a method to remove damaged cells & replace with good cells from another battery if I get the time. Seems like there is always a project that needs to be taken care of. If you should make a video doing this let me know. Stay safe, Joe Z

The link in the description leads to a (sales) page with a video that has no progress bar and promises a "short presentation" of the "EZ Battery Reconditioning™ system" (turns out it's a paid course, of course)... after about 10 minutes of endless talk with no useful info I finally gave up and googled it. The 1st page I found which offered a review of this "system" stated that this was a $47 course, and laid out the "new system", which turns out to gives no more than some of the free advice on youtube, and additionally requires that you purchase test tools, and possibly some chemicals etc... NOT COOL!!!

Dump the acid out completely and take regular tap water with baking soda and fill each cavity and rock it back and forth let sit for a few hours and dump out completely , do this 4 times , be careful wear shitty clothes, gloves and glasses, and then mix epsom salt with water fill the cells up as usual and recharge again for 72 hours. Load it down with two headlights for as long as it takes to get the voltage to 7 volts... recharge again. Battery should come up half ass and useable to 12 V with cranking amps pretty close to 80 percent or better of what new was.

At time stamp 10:31 the red Harbor Freight (Cen-Tech brand) meter is compared to a green digital multimeter. The statement is made: “You can see the Harbor Freight is fairly accurate...” That statement ASSUMES the green multimeter is also fairly accurate. It is a reasonable assumption, but there is a very SLIGHT chance the green meter isn’t accurate as well. My car has a thermometer that shows the outside temperature on the dashboard; When I compare it to thermometer readings shown on a bank’s marquee and the two temperature readings disagree, which thermometer is more accurate? Or I drive past a radar instrument set up by the police that flashes my car’s speed, and my speedometer shows a slightly different reading, which one is more accurate? BTW: I have several of those Harbor Freight multimeters and have compared them to several of my other digital and analog multimeters and I agree that the voltage readings at 1.5 V DC, 12 V DC,& 120 V AC are fairly similar among most of the multimeters including the Harbor Freight ones-but I had one more expensive meter that wasn’t. This reminds me of the state trooper who’s radar gun clocked me at 74 MPH while my speedometer read 65 MPH.

Not sure what this "restore it 100%" nonsense is about. Once the positive plates have corroded away, it doesn't matter if what is left is sulphate, once the plates have turned to sludge, the battery capacity decreases pretty much in direct proportion. Sure sulphation CAN be a problem on a newish battery that has been neglected - but if the battery is many years old, the positive plates will be mostly gone - it will show a normal voltage but underload will collapse quickly. Once that happens, you either rebuild the battery with new plates (perhaps worth it on a 1000A 2v storage battery) or you chuck it away OR you can keep it as a door stop or perhaps a 12v battery to keep a shed light on for a few minutes - with a solar panel on the shed roof to keep it charged up. Used like this, it doesn't matter if you 90AH battery now only has 10% of its positive plate remaining as 9AH at 12v will power the 12v LED light for ages. But once the plates have corroded away to almost nothing, you are NOT going to restore it - let alone to 100% :(

@James DeGray You are correct, to an extent. The lead can electoplate from the acid back onto the lead plate, however it will only plate back onto existing lead, since the existing lead is what is electrically completing the circuit. If the lead plates have hoes in them, those holes will not "close" from recharging/plating. The reduced cross sectional area due to existence of holes will reduce capacity and CCA.

Once a battery is dead, it'S DEAD, why waste your time on a battery well past its warranty period? Go to the closest Interstate Battery shop and ask for a "blem", no warranty, but it will last the normal warranty period plus if you keep it clean and uncorroded. At half the price, it's a real deal.

I laugh when I see this silly load tester being used as some kind of reliable loading device. It only loads on a good day to about 60 amps ! Get a real adjustable carbon pile put 2-3-400 amps on the battery read the amps / volts and you know what you really got.

Yes, they often sell them as 100 amp load testers, but I have 2 and they're both no more than 50 amps tested using good DC clamp meters. BTW, if you upgrade from say 55 watt halogen car lamps to "100 watt" for off road use they're usually nearer to 80 watts really at the sort of voltages car alternators give out. I used them in marine searchlights and when I found this the lamp manufacturers sent me a load of "130 watt" 12 volt bulbs free to really be about100 watt ones. They admitted that the so called "high wattage" bulbs were in fact often only that much wattage at close to 16 volts, not at the normal roughly14 volts alternator output, but the 55 watt bulbs ARE genuinely 55watts at circa 13.8 volts. The improvement in light output with the more wattage lamps is therefore not so much as many people think, particularly when the extra voltage drops along the cables reduces the actual voltage getting to te bulbs a bit more as well. The "130 watt" car bulbs equalled the original spec. expensive specialist "12 v 100w" marine searchlight bulbs, so I couldn't complain at "freebies".

Hi I'd like to say your methods are sound. I have worked in the battery industry for well over 30 years mostly in the industrial business ie: fork lifts, mine locomoties and heavy duty marine. I have not spent money purchasing new batteries since I can't even remember when! I had the luxury of being able to dump out the old acid and filling up with distilled water then trickle charge till the voltage rises to a preferred voltage of over 2.1 volts per cell then dumping that and filling up with 12.35 sg acid and then charge up with a normal charge, then load test over a set period and recharge again. I realize many people won't be able to do this and that is why I like your method! I would also like to note that you should never put a battery onto concrete floors or blocks!!! That's a big no no in the battery business and a quick way to drain your battery! Keep on posting videos like this they're informative and bang on the money!

Start with a fully charged battery that's been off the charger for at least a day and using a carbon load tester at 1/2 the listed CCA on battery tells the real story of battery condition.
