Cricket is all about your instinct and reflexes.A batsmen never has time to think when a ball is bowled at 90 miles per hour.Key to success is how quickly one can judge the length by keeping basics right

If you watch the ball from the hand and pick the length from the hand, u can be ready for the short and have more time to play. Of course, it needs lot of practice to master it so that you subconsciously start picking the ball from the release point within fraction of a second and play.

I think this is very interesting that Indian boys are told at a young age to read the ball from the hand. Hence I think that is why Indian batsmen play spin so well.

Good tips for younger players, really it's about getting them to watch the ball as closely as possible as they lack the concentration at first. Picking the length early is hard to do but ultimately is one of the most important factors of batting to get into a good position so a good video to show people who don't have access to a coach. I remember doing the exact same exercise in the U13's and it helped me a great deal. And for people wondering why their aren't balls going right at his head, children at that level can't bowl bouncers as their bodies don't allow the strength required and a bouncer might reach chest height at most. The child in the video also demonstrates very good defensive technique for his age and milking the ones and twos with defensive shots will make you an age group run machine haha.

I disagree. At 1:04, the kid picked out the line very early by watching the elbow and wrist position and got into a stance so that he could play close to the body and then the coach discouraged him from doing so. Let him use his intuition
@angeshkumar80337 жыл бұрын
No bro,the kid actually committed to the off side as you can see from his front foot going across towards cover region,with that position it is difficult to play straight as bat comes naturally across,i may be wrong but I tried my best
@meenakshis24156 жыл бұрын
ANGESH KUMAR well noticed. If it was an inswinger and you bring out your front foot towards the offside then the chance of you getting out is very high.

One more thing we can do is take little baby step forward with the bat halfway up and then when the bowler releases the ball check his hand followed by where the ball pitched and then react according to the situation to go forward or backward. This little thing helps in playing an aggressive shot coz with this position batsman generates its body flow.

I'm fairly new to this game, especially batting. Why should the batsman be still if the ball isn't bowled. Is it to ensure that the batsman doesn't have a pre-determined shot in mind?

Fully disagree... batsman has instinct and they react when bowl is about to release some batsman had tendency to come forward and some stays at their position it about the bounce when they actually react in nano seconds... it's just a simple game of watch and hit... more you complicate things then more you failed to score big!!
@matthewsharan29627 жыл бұрын
Mohit Shrivastava I used to play like that but it doesn't work lol. U have to react as soon as it comes out and u have to play it off the pitch not after it's bounced. If that makes sense
@mohitshrivastava077 жыл бұрын
Indeed!! you are right mate.. just an addition to above.. offcourse batsman have to smart enough to see the hand release of bowler to pick the speed and length along with some patience to see behaviour of pitch.. if one masters that then little correction in technique would get him success!!

I was taught differently.. maybe they teach it differently in set countries... in England I've been taught to get the front foot out, so that you're prepared to drive and then you can quickly shift to the back foot if the ball is short... instead of waiting for the ball to pitch; our neutral position was front foot.. so that if the ball is bowled, we don't have to worry about the front foot and can just go for shot selection... I'm not saying your method is wrong, I'm just wondering that maybe I should change my technique now
@libertyordeaf8 жыл бұрын
Coaching methods for preparation and trigger movements tend to differ. In England and Australia a lot of coaches suggest you move the front foot but be prepared to rock onto the back foot if the ball is short. Others want you to remain neutral without committing. It's really a question of what works best for you. The main thing is to be on the balls of your feet, alert and watching the ball.
@lavarball617 жыл бұрын
and that is how england batsman get plumb lbws and catches at silly points against sub continental spinners. sticking out the front foot isn't wrong but its when you put too much weight on the front foot and are unable to move it qucikly is when you mess up. try and let the ball come to you and practice playing it late.
@chintanvarmora19947 жыл бұрын
Front foot as neutral position gives less time to react when ball is being bowled at 90 miles per hour and it doesn't allow batsman to get into play short pitch ball.
@krishnabrahamanandam70665 жыл бұрын
Also the pitches u play on make a difference, in England the ball swings and usually u come forward to counter the swing. Australian pitches have more bounce thats where the back and across technique would be more useful

But now a days because of variations in pitches one have to judge the length according to pitch because some pitches have low bounce some have high bounce some are slow some are fast.. watching the ball till end is the best remedy to bat on any type of pitch.

Can I take advantage while batting on less bouncy and slow pitches. I used to play on mats, now starting playing on turf. Can't cope with Timmins. Please advise. Bro
@prathamesh84104 жыл бұрын
Less bouncy and slow pitches are advantage to the bowler. Mat & Turf has different bounce and speed so when you shift from mat to turf you should try to stay on wicket as long as possible and try to understand the pitch and watch the ball till the last movement as I always say and try to play more on Turf pitches and avoid mat because it can affect your game.
