This is nothing new. There have always been relationships between brands and media outlets. Now it's the berrics insteed of tws, thrasher, ... Thrasher was started by independent. Also people and brands caring about skaters has never just been about skill. Style and personality has always important. Things have changed a bit because of the format change but not as much as you think.

Also john hill is cool he use to be am and had a part for bird house and yeah people look down on him cuz of revive and braille but it seems like the dude is happy and is doing his own thing with progress daily so all the power to that dude

Im 2 years late but Mikey Whitehouse is one of few names I actually recognize. Majer Crew was putting in work back in the day and Nick Holt and Mikey were the best of the crew. They put in work for a minute and im glad theyre getting any sorta shot to shine regardless of what shoes they wore to get there. Rocking cariumas and getting a check might be better than turning "pro" for some no name board company that doesnt even have a team graphic and thinks skateboarding is just another revenue stream

Been following him forever kids an absolute freak doing unique crazy shit in a dope way and has been for a while (been following since 2017) . But jus shows cariumas psycho plan of domination, he was getting flowed from eS for a lil now I guess cariuma wow. But I would compare it like how fb acquired Instagram. Jamie was popping by himself and then cariuma prob saw his reach and wanted to acquire him, seems fairly new as of april 2021.
