Gonna drop an obligatory recommendation that you check out Beast in Black, formed by guitarist Anton Kabanen after he split with Battle Beast over creative differences. If you liked this song and their power metal sound, chances are you’ll love Beast in Black. ‘Blind and Frozen’ is the usual starting point. I agree with your conclusion on who ‘wins’ this comparison. Other killer tracks from Battle Beast are Let it Roar, King for a Day, Into the Heart of Danger, The Eclipse, Enter the Metal World, and Touch in the Night (which honestly sounds like the missing link between ABBA and Miami Vice).

That at the end sounded an awful lot like Tommy "Reinxeed" Johansson, though I don't know if he was already with Sabaton at that time. "Black Ninja" is another popular one, but if you want to go to the roots, watch the official live video of "Iron Hand" with their first singer Nitte Valo.

Battle beast are good, but they dip so heavily into adding shit to her voice to "fix" the sound for my taste. If you can't do it as good live as in studio then meh.

I will say a nothing beats a good raw vocal. Just going off of studio for these 😬 I’ll have to listen to some live stuff.

The reality is the complete opposite of what you say to the point you probably confused with a different band. Just check out some of their acoustic sets if you think they need to 'add shit to fix her voice'. Or some of Noora performing solo outside the band; kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebOXesh60a7Fhp8.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtCWaa2r29LVdn0.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bsh9mMScrNTWiqM.html They use backing tracks and other modern production such as reverb etc during their regular sets but that's pretty much every band in existence for the last 30 years. Actually, they probably rely on it less than average because they actually have a keyboard player in the band.

I'm not a pro but to my ears it doesn't seem like there's any more "shit" added to the vocals than you'd expect for that 80's sound. The modern sound probably has more "shit" added but it's not as obvious.

I have to admit, I wholeheartedly, disagree. Sabatons version is heavier and I like that. But the voice of Noora, Joakim couldn't hold a candle to her. It just doesn't sound right with him singing it. Now if Tommy was on vocals, who I think is a (much) better singer than Joakim, it might be different. Sabaton's version is excellent but for me Battle Beast wins.
