I recently purchased two of the SOK 280Ah batteries ( with heaters). On my second full cycle test, on of the batteries shut down, and would not communicate via Bluetooth or take a charge. Min at SoK replied to my FB post within 24 hours, and had a replacement BMS delivered to my door 3 days later.

Thanks for sharing your feeback. I had a bad 206Ah SOK on 12/23/21 after notifying Min that day, we received the new battery on 12/27/21. Pretty quick in my opinion.

Our SOK2 batteries have been rock solid for two years now. We got the originals before blue tooth and heaters. We are extremely pleased with the doubled capacity over the four deep cycle golf cart batteries they replaced. Slightly larger footprint than standard. Far better price than BB.

Awesome feedback. I swapped from BB to the same 1st Gen DOK 206s in 2020 and they are also still working like a champ! Safe travels 🤙

I really like the SOK but I wish it had an IP 67 case. What I really don't like about the Battle Born is the wasted space with all of the lugs. I guess they're for mounting. Keep the good stuff coming

Thanks! Yeah, the GC3s are horrible to mount and wire together. I'm not a fan of the odd shape either. Thanks again for watching!

I had three of the 100AH battle born, two failed either bad BMS or other internals, warranty refused to cover, spent almost 400 bucks to have them recycled

One important fact you did not note: where are these things built? I can rationalize paying a bit more, if it’s made in USA. Otherwise, very good technical comparison.
@joulemine

SOK is completely made and assembled in China. BBs are assembled in the USA, but I'm not sure where they are sourcing the cells or other components from. I've heard mixed answers on that question from BB reps, ambassadors, & tear down videos of them over the years. Personally, I feel BB are pricing themselves out of the market now a days. SOK isn't the cheapest option out there from China. In 2017-18 BB & Relion where pretty much the only "drop in" options at ~$12 an amp hour back then. 5 year later and there are tons of options, with the majority using cells from the East. Great point, I honestly forgot about that. Thanks for watching 🤙

Sorry for not knowing as I’m just getting into the power scene. Looking to do a simple lithium/ inverter install in our new fifth wheel. Just looking to have enough juice to make it through the night in nice weather at Cracker Barrel or harvest host on long travel days and be able to watch tv for a few hours in the evening etc. my question is will this 200 amp discharge rate be plenty (1 battery) for what I’m wanting to do ? I have purchased 3000w inverter already but as long as we don’t try to run too many things or big appliances we should be fine , and not damage battery ?
@joulemine
@joulemine 4 ай бұрын
Yes it should be just fine. The batteries have a BMS and will shut down above that, if you accidentally went over. Safe travels -Tom

I called various manufacturers for support. Only BB answered or called back. My current batteries are KS2 from Canada, 18 months old, and I am the second owner. They died, I called them, and they made it very clear that they would not support me in any way. :(

I dislike the terminal location on the SOK. Looks to be a problem in a multiple battery scenario.
@joulemine

I don't care for the side terminals either, but the GC3 "termnals" are horrible, in my opinion. You need two tools because they are bolt through, and that can be tough with the batteries mounted.

Great to gear, we've removed a few 7 year old Dragon Fly (BB) from a Class B that came with them and they were still working just fine. We only removed them because the client upgraded to a bigger battery bank. Thanks for your feedback and safe travels! 👍 -Tom

I cringe at the thought of spending the $ for battleborn. They may be the best thing since sliced bread, but I can buy 4× the Ah in LiTime or comparable batteries for less than that.

I live in a Van and want to install a PS5. With monitor I'm pulling about 4amps. With a 1k inverter. Just looking for a battery that can actually last 8 hours on that.. my Duracell 100AH lasts about 3 hours.
@joulemine
@joulemine 2 күн бұрын
Sounds like you need 3 times the battery bank you have now. I suggest you use an energy calculator (Google) and put your consumption in. 4 amps X 120v = 480w 480w / 12.8v = 37.5 amps aka you're pulling ~40 amps (at 12v) on the PS5. So you need atleast 40 amp hours per hour you intend to power the PS5. You'll also need a large solar array to recharge it. Happy tinkering -Tom
@nobiden3134
@nobiden3134 2 күн бұрын
@joulemine that's some goofy math.. you can weld with 40 amps.. and when I put my amperage clamp around the load I get 3-4 amps. The battery says 100 amp hours......... Both appliances claim under 200 watts.. so up is down left is back etc.... Had a solar panel for RV and it barely hit 80% and I had to drive 10 minutes to top it off. No thanks I have a relay to my ignition to connect after start for charging.. I want to know how fast that GC3 actually charges.. The PS5 and Monitor are under 12V after resistor pack so it kinda sucks there aren't 12V adapters available.. seems like it would be more efficient.
@nobiden3134
@nobiden3134 2 күн бұрын
@joulemine I think the problem is the battery can run for another 80 hours at 1amp.. but the inverter won't tolerate less than 2 (10V).. so I'm getting 1/3rd of the rating.
@joulemine
@joulemine 2 күн бұрын
@nobiden3134 You're forgetting that your amp clamp is reading 120v (not 12v) out of the inverter. Watts = Amps X Volts. So that 4 amps at 120v is close to 40 amps at 12v. I suggest you use a calculator and put it all into watts, then figure out how many amp hours (at 12.8v) you need. I've done ~150+ installs and lived off solar since 2017. I can assure you, my math is correct. 🍻

I find it comical that BB can find suckers willing to pay 2500 for a chinese battery. Good video and comparison though. For rv use I would still get a chins or litime for much less then the SOK will cost if I couldn't build one myself.
@joulemine

It's hard to beat the DIY build price of pretty much anything. Definitely a excellent option for those with the time and knowledge. The no low temperature cut off and larger footprint is why I'm not a big fan of Chins or LiTime. Most of the options they make are still cylindrical cells (like BB). LiTime did go from a 1 year to a 5 year warranty, though. Which I assume is the main reason for price difference between them and SOKs 7 year transferable warranty. 🤷‍♂️ BB has been around longer and has excellent marketing, no doubt about it. In 2018, Chins, LiTime, & SOK weren't even around. Luckily, BB really helped push for "drop in" lithiums for the RV. Which in turn opened the door for competition 😁 resulting in cheaper options 👍 Thanks for watching and safe travels 🤙

@@joulemine, I don't know about Chins, but Li Time batteries do not use cylindrical cells, all their batteries, except for their Li Time Mini, use prismatic cells. The Mini uses pouch cells and is pretty small and weighs in at only 19lbs for a 100 a/hr battery, vs BB 31lbs. Li Time also offers some of their batteries with cold temp cut off and some models can be had with internal heaters. They also recently came out with a whopping 460 a/hr battery that is about the size of and 8D battery or maybe a bit smaller. They also offer 24v and 48v batteries. Thank you for a simple, clear, and factual comparison of both batteries!👍
@joulemine
@joulemine 4 ай бұрын
@johndiezel5781 The 8D options are nice, put a few in Class As already. LiTime still had cylindrical cells options (some were, some weren't) last I looked, but that has been a year or so probably. Lion Energy & SOK really helped push the prismatic cells into the market. I personally wouldn't use the "mini" pouch cell batteries unless it's for a short-term build, as they don't last as long. The dont have the life cycles. SOK is supposed to have a Victron interface BMS out soon, like the Epochs, which I think is awesome. My favorite battery are the Victrons, as they are very compact and networked in. Which offers some things required by the Coast Guard (remote shut offs, protections, etc). However they are $$$ and I don't reccomend or use them for that reason alone. It's awesome how many options are out there now for lithiums! Plus the prices are so different now! Thanks for watching ✌️
