I'd leave the rebooted versions, to be honest. The 1974 TV series is well worth a watch and has the bonus of Roddy McDowell as the friendly ape and also has a very good recurring guest villain. 50 minute episodes and there's not too many of them.

The rebooted ones, especially the Caesar trilogy, are absolutely amazing. I really don't understand why some don't like them.

The very beginning and very end took place 700 hundred years from the previous 2 films. The rest is like a flashback told by the Lawgiver and takes plenty less than 20 years after the events of "Conquest." As the meme goes, this was one of the "Planet of the Apes" films of all time!

@CrazyStoneTiger Ай бұрын
The Lawgiver scenes (year 2670) took place 1,308 years before the original (year 3978), and 415 years before the events of the tv series (year 3085), which itself took place 893 years before the original.

To me, the first 2 films are the best.

"Battle" is most people's least favourite Apes movie, partly due to its clear lack of an adequate budget. I do have other issues with it, mostly the fact that the apes have made the evolutionary jump to being fully articulate in just a few years from the events in "Conquest", and also the fact that they're wearing the same clothes as in the first two movies - and it seems unlikely that fashions wouldn't change in just a few years! There are some good points - in particular I like the performance of the actor playing Kolp (who's name escapes me at the moment). As to where it's set - there are some deleted scenes that you can sometimes find on KZfaq showing that the survivors in the city are in possession of the Alpha Omega bomb - implying that these people are the ancestors of the mutants shown in "Beneath", and by extension that this is New York. By the way, I don't know if you're aware that there was a short-lived POTA TV series in the mid-70s. It was cancelled before they could complete the first season, but it's an improvement on "Battle" in my opinion. It might be worth your time.

Never mind fashion, how did the apes get the resources to completely rework their clothing so soon after a nuclear holocaust? Kolp was my favorite character: he was the embodiment of "the banality of evil!" The first two movies clearly took place place in/around what was NYC, but the next two were in LA. "Battle" couldn't have taken place in NY, so the Mutants couldn't be related to the ones in "Beneath." There was also a short-lived animated series not long after and based on the TV series.

@@seanryan3020 What's your reason for thinking that "Conquest" takes place in LA? I'm sure the city was never named in the film.

@greedycapitalist8590 I just checked the opening of Conquest, and it says North America, not LA. Obviously, another ploy by Mandela to make me look foolish! 🤪 "Escape" definitely takes place in LA, and "Conquest" follows, so I guess I assumed it also took place in LA. It was *filmed* at Century City in LA, so that's another reason I assumed as much.

A way bigger problem in believability is how the Escape in the 3rd film happened, yet many Americans seem to love it.

The 70 TV series is poor. There was talk back in 1988 of a 6th movie Planet of the Apes the Fourth War. Nothing came of that, then we got the god awful 2001 remake. However, the new movie series from 2011 onwards is an improvement.

What about the live action and animated apes tv series

The budget on these films got progressively lower. I always felt this one felt more like a TV movie, and the ape masks were nowhere near the same quality as the first film. This was also by far the weakest and least thought provoking. I still enjoyed this film though.

I like all the films but this is clearly the weakest of the series. It does have a few good things, though. My personal ranking of the original Ape movies would be 1,3,2,4,5.

Yay! Finishing off the originals. Hopefully someone else will request the new movies, which I expect you’ll like a lot They filmed on the Fox Movie Ranch It’s McDonald’s brother because they couldn’t get the original actor. And apparently they didn’t know what it meant to recast a role 🤷‍♂️😵‍💫 This is also my least favorite. I just find this one rather boring and not well executed in some parts, even the extended cut. Someone summed it up well, “There’s too much going on. There’s two stories with good potential that could have their own movies and stuffing both into one results in a not great execution.”

I think you missed a lot here. In part, this story is where the apes lose their belief that they are morally superior and are cast out of Eden. But there is hope for the future.
