Just a quick and dirty 1cc without any real scoring. Realized I never beat this game before so I quickly rectified that.
Tried to keep rank low for the most part by avoiding most items and powering up very slowly (1 small power item in stage 1 and a big power item in stage 2, 4 and 6). Stocked up on bombs in stage 4 on the big tanks. These will drop a full bomb item if you destroy the threads before destroying the body. After that you want to get the search options at the start of stage 5 and try to keep those for the rest of the game. You get those by letting 5 bomb pieces fall off the screen and then collecting an option. I raised the autofire rate to 30 hertz at the final bosses. You can't go back to a lower autofire rate if you do this and this has an added side effect of the rank raising much quicker, but it really doesn't matter anymore this late in the game. Miyamoto is incredibly fast but has decent damage and rank raises fairly slowly because of his shot.
This run is kinda silly since I messed up a lot of stuff like the stage 3 secret 1-up and forgetting to bomb the flamingos in stage 2.
Raizing is another one of the very well-known and respected companies that developed shmups back in the day and Battle Garegga is pretty much their flagship game.
Raizing games distinguish themselves from other shmups by having tons of secrets, very complex bosses and by the fact that you have to play their games in a very unorthodox way from other shmups.
Almost all of their games are notorious for their ferocious rank systems where the game will quickly become impossible if you try to play the game like a normal shmup.
Pretty much every action you make in the game except for moving around increases the rank. In order to stop the rank from creeping up to neck-height and biting your head off you have to really pay attention to what items you pick up and regularly suicide.
Pretty much during the whole game you are fighting against the rank system. Since the game gives you extends at every 1 million points you are forced in a state where you have to score well in order to survive well since you need to regularly get extends to suicide and lower the rank.
Other Raizing staples include the medals and bomb fragments. After killing a certain amount of enemies a medal will drop, these start at a low value but continue to increase to a max of 10k until one drops off the bottom of the screen at which point the chain resets.
You pick up bomb fragments off the ground and collecting a bunch of these forms a full bomb. The length and strength of the bomb depends on how many fragments you currently carry.
