Yeah, that may be true. Every country romanticies their history in some way or another. Every romanian is aware of that. But to say that they were "regional rebelions" ? ..is a big understatement. The first document written in modern romanian is a letter written to the mayor of Brasov in 1521 warning " the turks have crossed the Danube". (Neacsu de la Campulung) Every king in Romanian history has had battles (lost and won) with the turks. Our entire history spins around not falling to islam and mantaining christian religion and language. And it all ends with romania winning independence in 1877 from the Otomans. The same "romanticised" factor is applied to turkish history, I presume. Losing battles to little borderly countries like Wallachia would be something not thoroughly mentioned in their history texts.
