"Bonus Edit" of previously unused footage from the 230th Anniversary Re-enactment of the Battle of Monmouth, NJ which took place in June 2008. Much of this footage ended up on the cutting-room-floor and the majority of it wasn't originally included in the Documentary DVD we produced for the event.
No narration, just some of the best bits of Re-enactment footage we captured on the field in a 'combat cameraman' style. It's like our version of a Revolutionary War ASMR video!

I would love to have heard the conversation between Charles Lee and Washington after the battle. It's said George rarely cursed but according to people who were nearby he was ripping Lee a new one and his cursing was shaking the trees lol

Yeah that'd have been cool. Some accounts don't mention swearing and some historians think it didn't happen, but setting it either way would be awesome. Just to see him and hear his voice.

One thing I dislike about re-enactments is the amount of overweight old men in them. The vast majority of both armies were young, fit men and it really breaks immersion when I see a bunch of fat bodies walking the field in uniform.

The issue is getting more of us young guys involved. Same is true for the ACW

I think because mostly old men able to afford the uniform and equipment. I once considered to get myself into ww2 german reenactment. I'd changed my mind until I know it will at least cost me 2K just to get the uniform, and we are not talking about the good quality one.

at this point, i think the only thing actually calling the colonials, or “rebels” an army, was simply the fact that most of them were armed with muskets. They were in no way disciplined or professional, as an army. Sure, some of them can fix a carriage, or survive in the outdoors for longer than 3 days. And maybe some were hunters, but they wouldn’t stand a chance against the British for a while. And the only ones who even kinda knew what they were doing, were veterans from the seven years war, or the French and Indian war. So as long as you weren’t trying to role play as anything higher than baseline soldier, you can probably just wear any old 18th century outfit

@@weebandgaminginc.7593that may be historically true (Which it isn't entirely - there was some training that the Colonials got), but reenactment groups still have expectations

Well you see, in order to avoid accidental friendly fire, armies chose bright coloured uniforms so you could tell the difference between friend and foe in the fog, smoke, and overall haze war brings, naturally this was phased out by the end of world war one

At Monmouth there were 1000 hessians that fought along side the British. Originally they had a group of 4000 but they sent 1000 to New York and 2000 with a wagon train carrying supplies for the British 2nd division.

Naw, they just marched up point blank with honor….. what a load of crap. They de-evolutionized and went back hundreds and thousand of years pre-Roman times to get slaughtered? No strategy, booby traps, arrows, hot oil, flaming arrows to weaken them…. Just March right up and get shot point blank? Nope, didn’t happen that way, sorry, not sorry.
