A friend gave me a Nobels that I kept in a cabinet for a long time. The other day I pulled it out and put it on the board and I must say, this is not your Pappa's 808. this is a serious pedal. Great bottom end.
@freecitizen2760
@freecitizen2760 4 жыл бұрын
TJ Nugent : The TS808 is a great pedal, completely “professional”, and is on many pedalboards for a good reason. That “bottom end” interferes with other instruments like the bass and the kick drum. That “mid hump” slices through a mix the same way that a Celestion Vintage 30 does. I’m not a fan of that speaker but I’ve had an original TS808 for decades and would never sell it. Have you ever heard an original with the original (not a reissue) JRC4558D chip?
@pothos89
@pothos89 4 жыл бұрын
@@freecitizen2760 It's funny how you first praise the 808 for it's merits in a live band setting, and then start talking about vintage chips. I doubt that more than 1% of guitarists could hear any difference between the original 808 and the reissue in a blind test when played with a band. And then there's the fact that not everybody are playing in a conventional band set up, and might therefore want different things from their overdrives. The 808 is great for some things, but there's more to guitar than SRV-style blues and rock.

Pete: Please don't worry too much about youtube and burnout. I don't think you will ever fall into that abyss for a couple of reasons: youtube is NOT your main source of income and more importantly, your personality would indicate that you will know when and for how long to take breaks. And that's totally cool I think for the majority of your fans around here. Bottom line for me: I don't need a routine, scheduled Pete Thorn video every 24 hours. What I do hope for is continued, best of class gear demos and gorgeous playing whenever you have time between gigs, clinics, writing and recording new music, your real jobs....etc... :) Pete, I know I am not alone in saying that you're a gem here on youtube - honest, engaging, interesting and a helluva musician. What I actually do wish for from you, time allowing, is perhaps some more occasional collabs with other key youtubers [i.e., ones I like, because, well, it's all about me...lol :P ] - need more Pete and Tim. Love to see you hook up somehow with guys like Rhett Shull and Rick Beato [but especially Rhett as I feel you guys would be like peanut butter and jelly together]. Hell, I think we'd all enjoy some kinda collab with Brian Wampler and maybe Phil McKnight as well! Another thing to throw out for your consideration: your thoughts on what I am personally referring to as the "next gen" guitar gurus out there leveraging youtube, IG, etc...People like Aaron Marshall, Plini, David Maxim Micic, bands like For Giants, Disperse, Polyphia....bands and players of that ilk. And along with that, maybe a vid with your thoughts on super modern guitar makers like Aristedes and Steinberg. Like that classic song says Pete - don't go changin', to try to please me... :D cheers brotha

The Nobels ODR-1 is the single pedal among dozens and dozens I've tried that I cannot fault. It truly is awesome. Plus I've found that no matter what amp or pedals you stack it with, it always complements the sound very nicely. Excels at low to high gain. At full gain it's a bit boomy which could get buried in the mix but I really dig the way it's clipping, still perfectly natural sounding and usable even at full throttle. I just sold my beloved ibanez TS10 and fulltone 2B boost on ebay. The ODR-1 is to blame. If I can take only 1 pedal with me, the ODR-1 is it.

As an owner of kot and D&M drives, which are 2 brilliant overdrives I was really impressed with the Nobles Odr1 and I will be picking one up for sure, the king of tone is the only pedal that stays on my board the whole time because it is so versatile at first I was expecting it to stand out like other overdrive pedals, but it’s a type of pedal that makes your guitar and amp blend together and does the low gain to high gain beautiful don’t get me wrong the D&M drive is fantastic but there 2 different beast’s.

I'm searching for a boost/overdrive for my 65' bandmaster. I'm using a 78' Les Paul with high output pickups that already gets dirty through the amp on 7. Just want the push to cut through occasionally or beef up the overall sound. My band plays mid 70's style, dry, no frills rock and roll (faces, stones, Free). Something maybe to keep on and use volume knob on guitar to control overall attack. Treble boosters look interesting but I'm wondering if I need more mid's for the Fender. A musician who I use to play with is strongly recommending the Nobles. Any thoughts?

I have been playing for about 20 years, didn't really give much attention to tone and gear. Used to focus more on composition and playing itself. I now realize there is more beauty to add when you mix good playing with good sound. Good tone can also be joyful and inspiring to play better. However, when a good guitarist is playing with feeling he could produce a good sound using whatever he touches with his hands. While I appreciate the effort and time put to make this video, I seriously think those pedals almost all sound the same! they are all good, but still I don't understand whu would someone prefer or choose one beside the others!! Thanks Pete, your videos are all of great help and inspiration. Greetings from Egypt.

The King Of Tone V4 is user configurable with internal DIP switches. Each side can be independently set to clean boost (no diode clipping), overdrive (asymmetric diode clipping), or distortion (symmetric diode clipping.) I use both sides in clean boost mode (no diode clipping.) There are also internal trim pots for each side that can be used to increase the treble/presence if your amp, speakers, or guitar need a little extra treble. You can also run it at 18V for more headroom, which I do.

Of the 3 pedals the Boost side on the D&M Drive has more of the characteristics of a Tube Screamer. It was designed that way being the TS808 Mick’s favorite pedal. Basically he took the best part of the Klon Centaur and a TS808 and had a kid.

I approached this with an open mind, with a slight bias toward the Analgoman because I own the POT pedal. I have to say that the Nobels wins based on listening with headphones on my iPhone. It seems to have the clearest note definition in the solo section. The rhythm part was also very smooth and pleasant to the ear. The KOT sounded more “crunchy” to me, and the D&M was somewhere in between. I liked all three pedals, but the Nobels seemed to be a cut above.

I love my Nobels ODR-1 Natural Overdrive, it is natural. It sounds so much better than a Tube Screamer, there is just something special about the way the ODR-1 makes your guitar sound, it enhances the tone without sounding superficial, compressed, or muddy. I have found stacking it with a Timmy sounds better than with a OCD. I need to get the other Nobels pedal and try it. ODR-1 is my dessert island pedal for sure, I own two just in case. Nobels sounded best alone to my ears, smooth, not fizzy/fuzzy like the others, great high end definition. I'm sold.

Great demo,great music and frankly 3 great pedals. Each pedal has it's place for each individual.

You can order the KOT with separate inputs and outputs for each half of the pedal. Reportedly both sides are switchable as they are usually built identical and either side can be a Boost, OD or Distortion based on how you set the interior mini dip switches. I ordered mine with separate in and out, a parallel power jack and higher gain on the right side. It took nearly 2 years for mine.

The two sides of the KoT are not quite identical. The boost (left) side has slightly more mid push. You can test it for yourself by setting both sides to clean boost with the internal DIP switches and then set both sides for the same gain and volume, and switch back and forth with the stomp buttons.

Nice vid!!! The ODR has the fullest and best sounding low gain setting for the rhythm work you played. Sounds rich and creamy. The D&M really brings out the crunch in your sig guitar, but in a subtle, smoother way compared to the others. Beautiful piece you composed. Brilliant stuff.

I’ve had the Nobels ODR-1 for many years now and actually moved on a King of Tone because of it. I use a BB Preamp and an ODR-1 in place of where the KOT was. The ODR-1 is used as the lower gain option however it does have a great compressed “polite” high gain sound

I, for one, am all for you having fun with your videos, even if it means we get less regular content (though, of course, I hope it doesn't mean that!). We in the guitar community are lucky to have you making awesome vids!!! Oh, and all 3 sounded great!

I have played the Nobels ODRS for years. Yes I try other pedals at times, but keep coming back to the ODRS. I love the separate Bass, Mid, and Treble controls. i learned about them from Nashville Session ace Pat Buchanan.

@@martydibergi5228 I got to run sound for John Jorgenson and his Gypsy Jazz group. We talked about the Hellecasters and he seemed to want to get that act back together. He mentioned that Brad Paisley had been interested at one time!

This conversation is impossible did you do the sound about 15 years ago in Toronto? I was there and I Left John a message To Call Me About 4 hours ago, TODAY I do not believe in coincidences But??? This is nuts and impossible. John Lenny Breau and Pete are my guitar heroes. How can I speak with you?

1) Nice pedals. Check. 2) Pete's top notch playing. Check. 3) Overlall honest and informative demo. Check. ---------------- Bottom line: uber-coolness of 80 lvl P.S. For me D&M overdrive is the most natural sounding pedal among others.

If I remember correctly, the Mick side of the D&M drive is Tube Screamer-y (mid-humpy).

It doesn't shelve off so much bass as a tube screamer, retains the highs and the mid push is in a different place. It has a huge amount of boost in tap as well. Not much like a TS at all.
