Number 15: Burger King foot lettuce. The last thing you want in your burger is foot fungus. But as it turns out, that might be what you get.A 4channer uploaded a photo anonymously to the site showcasing his feet in a plastic bin of lettuce. With this statement, "This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King." Admittedly, he had shoes on. But that's even worse.

Great thing about many official arcade ports Mattel made for the Intellivision themselves pre-Crash (and is true of all of their games on the system) is the fact they had four speeds. Slowest if you pressed 3 on the keypad, medium for 2, semi-fast for 1, and fastest for any other key/movement disc/side buttons. I would say closest to the arcade game on the NTSC IntelliVision would be to press 1 on the keypad.

You could add The Flintstones: BurgerTime in Bedrock for the Gameboy Color. It’s literally BurgerTime, but with The Flintstones, painfully slower gameplay than the original arcade game and some amazing music by Allister Brimble. It could have been cool to see it on the video, you should check it out, but it’s really slow, so patience.

Another title with loads of ports. Great stuff! The 8 bit home computers also had Burger Time clone in mr. Wimpy (Whatever happened to that chain of restaurant btw? I know in the Netherlands we had mr Wimpy before mcDonalds). Unfortunately Ocean decided it would be better with a terrible and pointless fetch-the-ingredients mini game tacked to the front. The Burger Time portion of those games play OK. The burgers have cheese but no recognisable lettuce. Which, if you really have to leave out ingredients, is the proper way to do it, imo.
@RetroCore

Ah, Wimpy. I remember that place. Near the end of the chain's life they started to serve the burgers on real plates and give you drinks in glasses or cups as a way of saying they were more classy than McDonald or Burger King. Or at least in the UK they did.

Aquarius was a crappy micro computer Mattel imported from a Hong Kong manufacturer. They had to included an add on expander to have sound, cart ports and even controlers because it wasn't built in the computer itself. The INTV ports made for it were worse than original versions so yeah it didn't sell to well. The ECS, add-on keyboard for the INTV 2, was a different product.

I've a few versions of Burgertime in the collection. Got it for the NES, the Gameboy version, which is actually really not a port, on PS1 in one of the Midway collections (along with Moon Patrol, amazing how these made the Midway collections back then, considering Data East made this, and Irem Moon Patrol. But Midway did bring them out in the US), and on Wii with Data East Arcade Collection.
@1983parrothead
@1983parrothead 6 жыл бұрын
In America, when Data East is brought up, most gamers only mention Karnov, RoboCop, Bad Dudes VS. DragonNinja, Captain America & The Avengers arcade, Caveman Ninja, Flying Power Disc/Windjammers, Magical Drop series, a couple of negatively known ones in their opinion Lock 'n' Chase and Fighter's History (Dynamite), and this in the video. Data East meant for Peter Pepper to have a mustache while Midway made him pretty different other than removing mustache. In Japan, much more Data East games are mentioned by gamers. From the Darwin games, Kuuga Trilogy, Glory of Heracles and Suiko Enbu (North American arcade is Outlaws of The Lost Dynasty and North American Saturn port is Dark Legend) to Edward Randy (that Treasure Co. loves and is The Last Crusade meets Castle In The Sky anime film), Atomic Runner Chelnov (Wolf Fang is likely modeled after that more than Konami's Contra) and Trio The Punch: Never Forget Me... There are a couple of sequels including Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory (flyer by same artist of Japanese and European BurgerTime flyers) and Super BurgerTime.

Most versions: The food is possessed and out to kill you while making burgers Aquarius version: THE DEMONS ARE COMING FOR YOU, MAKE SATAN'S BURGERS AND MAKE THEM FAST Seriously though, I'm not surprised that none of these were arcade perfect given the difference between the arcade hardware and home systems of the time. My mom went on about how much fun she had playing it on the Intellivision, meanwhile I own the NES version. From what I can tell, the Intellivision port actually runs at a speed more similar to the arcade, while the NES port is like the arcade version on steroids, and with slightly more finicky controls. I can never make it past stage 3. I've generally heard that the Intellivision and Colecovision ports are the best, and from this comparison that seems to hold true.

@frankschneider6156

The Aquarius is the computer enhancement kit of the Mattel Intellivsion. Same concept as the Adam by Coleco for the Colecovision (which eventually led to their downfall) and Familiy Basic by Nintendo for the Famicom/NES. Taking a game console and turning it into a "real" computer using additional peripherials was at that time obviously total nonsense but was quite the rage in the early 80 (just like controllers with integrated numeric key pad (Intellivision, Colecovision, 5200, Arcadia 2001, Jaguar). Even Atari tried it with the 2600 and "Basic Programming", but without additional hardware (Phillips did the same with the Odyssey 2). P.S. Yes Ian Gray was not a very talented programmer at that time. P.S.II Sega also tried this console -> computer thing with the SG-1000.

Pong was still state of the art, as can be seen from e.g. Video Olympics). Yes nowadays CoD graphics may be slightly improved, but gameplay necessary isn''t. Gameplay-wise there ain't much of a difference (at least in principle) between e.g. Combat and Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat X. Presentation and controls are different, the game is, in principle, the same.

Around 87 many professional software developers started developing software for 16 bit machines. First the ST, little bit later the Amiga (but nobody ever did that for the QL) so over time the market for 8 Bit software in the UK declined, which doesn't mean it vanished into nothingness, it just shrank. In Spain this change set in later, because the average income was lower in Spain, so the relative market share of Speccy games in the UK shifted, so the percentage of games programmed in the UK shrunk, while the percentage of those programmed in Spain relatively rose. It's probably worth mentioning that many supposedly UK games were really e.g. Spanish or French. E.g. all games by Dynamics were published in the UK by Ocean under their Imagine label, while e.g. Bank Panic was published by Gremlin. Later the same thing happened again when nobody in western Europe used 8 Bit computers anymore, but people in the former eastern block did, because they were relatively poor in comparison but those outdated machines (or local pirate clone systems) were cheap and an old 8-Bit computer is better than no computer at all. And that's how we first got loads of Polish C64 and Speccy software and later Witcher and hopefully sometime soon Cyberpunk 2077.

You don't often bother with the clones, judging by the way the Spectrum 'attempt' drew the screen agonisingingly slowly before even starting it may be a basic program. For such a simple game, it's one numerous developers had surprising troubles getting right. I find the arcade version far too frustrating, you need a controller with a really crisp 4-way response, otherwise you can't get on and off ladders when you want. I have the exact same problem with arcade Pac-Man and various games of that period, those really crisp, tight turns that you need aren't there due to sticks being built with fighting games in mind and too readily throwing in diagonals. I guess you could build a template that goes over the top of the stick with beveled slots to gate the stick and eliminate diagonals entirely... Or use the keyboard, but that's not for me.
@RetroCore

True, clones are normally left out of the show but some of the clones actually used the name Burger Time so I wasn't sure if they were clones or not at first. In the end I just did everything I could find.

I actually played the PC-DOS version quite a bit (not at the time though , as I wasn't born yet), its fun , though admittedly it shows how limited the PC was for gaming at the time. This maybe one of the few times one can say the C64 got beaten by the Apple II , which for me is easily the most impressive port on the list, while the C64 port should really have looked, ran and played alot better.

If you can make a movie out of Battleships, Clue/Cluedo or Super Mario Brothers you can make a movie out of Burger time.
