If I'd ever cause someone in the gym such an injury, the last thing I'll do afterwards will be to joke about it. I'm honestly disappointed in the B team with this. The joking and everything is great and I enjoy the high level rolling, but forcing 2 people into an ego match? I assume the lad was joking, and even seemed nervous before the match but as stated in the video, Craig has a lot of influence. If he refused the match, we all know the whole gym would have crushed his soul. Another point, it seems Nora is more experience and wanted to prove she could beat a guy. From my point of view, she went full tournament on him. She was obviously pummeling for the leg, and the kid being inexperience was stiff, but she wanted that heel badly. His knee was straight and stiff while his knee was locked. Causing an awkward angle and she forced it causing a reap. What kind of grosses me the most is the demasculinizing jokes afterwards. "Oh I thought he would have lasted longer than 12 seconds" Does she not realized the long, expensive recovery that kid has? Smiling after destroying a fellow training partner's knee? Kind of environment is this gym promoting? Over all big fan, but god damn B team.

This situation was handled poorly. Layers of sarcastic humor can't cover up the fact that a gym owner chose to profit off of the injury a developing athlete hurt by a seasoned competitor. A lot of people with more experience than I do in the comments are saying that this could have been completely avoided. The guy incurred a catastrophic injury, and the gym culture at B-Team laughs it away. It seems like Liam was trying to keep up with the joke, but was also a bit dissociative. For the vast majority of BJJ practitioners, going back to the gym during the week is the win itself. Craig took a year of that away from Liam here.

As somebody with brothers, I can confidently say I'd be pretty f*cking pissed off if one of the people I own a gym with peer pressured my brother who sucks at leg locks into a match against a fairly high level competitor where he then gets his knee broken, from the looks of it catastrophically. Lateral knee breaks are nasty. And yes, I know Craig apparently paid for the guy's surgery but that doesn't make any of this remotely okay. And, maybe I'm just not a psychopath but when I roll with somebody at my gym, even we're "going hard" and I put them in a reap/Z-lock (which I wouldn't do if I can tell they don't know anything about what's happening), I wouldn't actually go for a Z-lock lateral kneebar. Those come on fast, especially if people have no idea what's going on. A lot of black belts, including high level competitors especially in bigger weight classes don't even know what this is. I mean those guys BARELY know how to defend regular heel hooks. I'd feel differently if she went for a heel hook and at least gave him some time to tap while he was dead to rights which somebody at her level should be able to do.

Not cool B_team and Nora. It doesn't matter what a 17 year old kid says, you already knew he was wrong. There is no way in hell he would know known what a z lock is, so he wouldn't have known to defend it. Your point could have been proven in so many different ways, from talking to him, showing him examples, or just getting Nora to pin him a dozen different ways. Not sure how you are all joking about this. Really hope you feel good about the lesson you taught him.

This isn’t funny at all. That guy seemed like he was obviously joking and Craig pressures him into a match where he gets his leg snapped. Then they just egg on him some more. Love B-Teams content but this was done in really bad taste and a huge miss in my opinion. Being a troll has to be separated from being a good coach for your students.

Why is Jones smirking instead of exploding at Schultz, who being a purple belt IBJJF world champion, knows full well that what she just did is a foul that would have got her disqualified from competition (allowed only for brown and black belt no-gi)? This is disgraceful.

Shitty move by Craig and the girl. The boy was clearly outgunned, and hurting a teammate that bad for laughs and giggles sucks big time. The stupid comments afterwards were the cherry on the top.

"Why didn't you tap?" bro....she didn't apply the lock yet, she broke his knee while trying to underhook the leg. Having her weight fall to the side over his ankle while her leg counter pressured on his knee made the break happen. Tbf no one would have seen that one coming. The girl has a dangerous resume, i wouldn't fuck with that.

From what you can see in the Josef Chen match from WNO, and from what I have experienced in the gym, people try to counter the reap/z-lock position by straightening their leg, which causes the lock to go instantly into the knee. You should never straighten your leg in that position. The outside pressure of the reaping leg is suprisingly strong. You have to basicly expose your own heel to take pressure off the knee. The Z-lock starts when you turn your hip out, because then, the pressure is applied through the hip and knee. I hope this explanation helps keeping more people safe in that position, both offensively and defensively.
@Brandtweathers
@Brandtweathers Жыл бұрын
A lot of people also lack inner hip mobility as well, which can provide greater range for the ankle to to rise outside the knee. For example, I've seen a knee/mcl explode on the mats from someone grabbing an ankle in the knee shield and twisting the wrong way. It's a serious mobility vulnerability that most people are not aware of.
