The Battle of Vienna took place near Vienna on 12 September 1683 after the capital city of the Habsburg Holy Roman Empire had been besieged by the Ottoman forces under Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa for two months. The battle was fought by the Holy Roman Empire (led by the Charles V, Duke of Lorrane) and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, both under the command of King John III Sobieski, against the Ottomans and their vassal of Crimean Khanate, Trasylvania, Moldavia,Wallachia and Hungarian rebels. The battle marked the first time the Commonwealth and the Holy Roman Empire had cooperated militarily against the Ottomans. The defeat is often seen as a turning point for Ottoman expansion into Europe, after which they would gain no further ground.

Because Poland and the Polish Army are not synonymous with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Army! The same thing about your lies about the partition of Poland, which did not happen! Because there were three sections of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth! not Poland! I remind your typical Polish ignorance that Russia (starting from the Lviv region) was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, as well as Lithuania. Moreover, Poland did not create the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1569, alas, it was the case of the Lithuanian princes of the Gediminovich dynasty, who simultaneously ruled in three lands since 1386: in Poland, in Lithuania and on part of the Russian land, occupied by Lithuania.

Well, if Britain wouldn't intervened in favour of the Turks twice during the Russo-Turkish Wars, Istanbul will be Russian exclave now. If France never allied with Turks, kept neutrality in the wars or joined the Holy League, the Balkans could have been freed from the Turks centuries before the Russo-Turkish War of 1878. Story is don't made by what ifs.

A decaying Empire: 1261-1453 By the fourteenth century, the J’3ωι5Η question of Byzantium seemed to be most concerned with Venetian J’3ω5. Venetians had come to reside in the Empire in large numbers by the early 14th century, and treaties between the Empire and Venice granted the Venetians living in the empire, including J’3ω5 of Venetian origin, special privileges, though they also carried certain minor economic prohibitions. Under the aegis of these treaties, Venetian J’3ω5 could buy, sell or rent land anywhere in Constantinople. They also enjoyed a more favorable tax structure than Byzantine citizens, as well as the freedom of movement and settlement anywhere in the Empire.[47] Further complicating this legal status, some J’3ω5 obtained Venetian citizenship either "by coming from areas subject to the Republic or by purchasing naturalization", thus obtaining the same privileges as Venetian nationals in the Empire.[48] At this time, the Empire was in rapid decay, and could not seriously enforce laws intended to curtail these rights and regain economic control within its borders. Thus, an exception to the general trend of Byzantine history emerged during this century, whereby J’3ω5 were entitled to a broader set of rights than Christians. However, it is important to note that these liberties were conferred based on their being Venetian, not based on their Jewish identity. Non-Venetian Jews did not profit from the Venetian-Byzantine treaties, and non-Jewish Venetians enjoyed the same liberties as their Jewish compatriots.

This is a very good and insighful work blending together clips from several known movies into a coherent picture of the struggling XVII century Europe. It appears that the main motive is the Habsburg's struggle against the 'rest of the world' for domination over Europe and beyond it. In this context the episodes of known historical events are shown as a logical continuum. Congratulations !

@@cardboardcapeii4286 Read the author's heading to this video - you need to expand it to see it all.. There is a list of movies used to produce this compilation, properly giving them authorship credits. These are contemporary and reasonably historically accurate movies made during the last 3 decades. There may be sometimes a minor issue, partly due to translation, for example the Dutch film 'Michiel de Ruyter' goes as 'Admiral', but this in turn may be confusing it with the Russian historical film from different times 'Admiral' about Adm. Kolchak's career.

If the Ottomans had not been busy with a civil war against the Timurid dynasty, the whole of Europe would have been under the Ottoman flag. It is quite sad that the Ottomans behaved very selfishly in the 14th century. Peace and permission were granted to conquer Eastern Europe, but the Ottomans canceled their natural spread to Europe and returned to fight against the Timurid dynasty, who were also Muslim brothers and desired sole rule. This led to the most devastating war in Muslim history. Thousands of elephants from India were used by the Timurids to crush the Ottomans, resulting in the deaths of 40,000 Ottoman soldiers. The Ottomans were declared defeated after their leader was killed by the Timurids.

Suleiman in 1529 wanted to take Vienna as a cherry on top to his military campaigns that year, but early winter forced a retreat. Kara Mustafa in 1683 was fueled by something the Ottomans had been using as a context which wasn't that incorrect for the time: To religiously liberate peoples openly begging them to intervene, like the Zaporog Hetman Bohdan who rebelled against the Polish, but could not get help due to the Ottoman-Venetian War, or the Wesselyni Conspiracy which was organized by Hungarian Protestantst which aimed to revive the Middle-Age Hungarian Empire, and specifically had sent requests of help to France and the Ottomans, which were allies at the time. Judging by this, Kara Mustafa can also leave the dirt he is often thrown due to insufficient information. Coupled with this, there were issues with logistics, strategy and their aging siege doctrine. Apart from all this, the defeat can be tied to the Ottoman dismissal of the Relief Army of Sobieski and the betrayals of the Wallachians who let them cross the final bridge between the Ottomans and them, and the clash at Kahlenberg. To answer your question, I'd most likely side with the siege in 1529, or any other chance the Ottomans had to siege Vienna. Such instances could be when the Holy Roman Empire declined Hungarian Michael Apafi as the Prince of Transylvania and began the Fourth Ottoman-German War, where the Ottomans conquered Ujvar, but this oppurtunity was shadowed by their defeat at Szentgotthard. Another example can be the 1672 Polish Campaign where the Ottomans conquered Podolia and Kamyanets-Podilsky, and stopped when they recieved a requested amount to not march on Lviv. There was another instance where the Viennese had already abandoned Vienna at the face of this threat, but it never came.

@@aiurea1 for betraying your overlord. You should have just openly revolted. That would've been better and still served the purpose of weakening the Ottomans without resorting to such lowlife tactics. Literally reminds me of some German factories manufacturing dead artillery shells deliberately to weaken their own country.
