One of my favorite vintage games! I agree, there should be more teams made and a few special power changes between teams but overall, a great game!!

@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews To Battleball and beyond! I picked up a copy after your review - now to get it to the table in a 2‐player session… Despite being told, I was unprepared for the sheer size of the board - that and the sculpted figures should make for quite the impressive setup.

Great review - I bought this a few years back and have yet to get it to the table, since I figured the wife wouldn't be too into this one. I've seen it in thrift stores a handful of times in the last few years

I still have this and all the parts save for some of the stickers. They kept falling off my men. One of the torsos kept falling off the legs, an easy fix. Also, I added a mid field launcher for field goal attempts. EDIT: Those dice look slightly different from the ones I have. I wonder if this is a different edition?

I've not had trouble with stickers, but I find Pritt Stick or any other glue stick is the best for gluing them back down on any game. When I bought my copy at a carboot sale (50p!) all the dice were missing so I bought replacement ones from eBay in the correct colours, so that'll be why they look different. :)

This game would have benefited from being smaller and more compact in design, particularly the field, Something similar to Blitz Bowl, And instead of rolling once for one player on your team to move per turn why not roll all the team dice together and move the entire team in your turn? I can see why this game failed, It's boring with such a huge field and slow movement rules it would take forever to get into the action, Just like in Battle Masters, draw a card move one of your armies units maybe? If you manage to draw one of your army cards that allows one of your units to move one hex across a huge map with nothing happening for what sometimes feels like a life time before finally getting into the action, boring!, Though Heroscape has fast paced action with so many terrain variations and characters/Squads to make the game endlessly replayable, Definitely worth checking out. Congratulations! on Episode 100! 🎉

Well, even though I'm no designer I do enjoy discussing design so I hope you won't mind if I jump in here. (Disclaimer: I don't own this game, have never played it) First off I agree, the board feels unnecessarily huge, but at the same time some of the potential move numbers are huge, and a more compact board would likely go hand in hand with less figures, which in turn would make tackles more painful. As a lighthearted kids game I can see the benefit of having a big enough stack of figures that losing a handful doesn't feel too bad. I think it could be done, but I think a lot of tweaking the dice and odds would have to go along with it. Regarding the idea of rolling all the team dice at once, well, it would be interesting to see how it works in practice, but I'd be worried about a couple of things. Given this is a kids game (or even if you choose to look at it as a beer and pretzel game) I think longer turns would be best avoided. The fast and simple back and forth with minimal downtime is, I think, a very valid design goal here. It would also complicate things as you'd now have to keep track of which figures have already moved on your turn, which only gets more complex as you could be resolving multiple tackles, passes, and handoffs. Not necessarily desirable for a kids game or a beer and pretzel game, too much information to track. Plus it could potentially open up some cheesy strategies involving chains of passing/handoffs. Plus, if you're moving your entire team every turn, getting tackled puts you at a bigger disadvantage than would be the case otherwise, as you're now activating fewer figures than your opponent every turn, increasing risk of a landslide runaway victory. Just my 2 cents :)

Some good points from both. I agree with @Qualjyn that the one per turn does keep both players in the game - one of the reasons I've stayed away from Warhammer is the long downtime between turns waiting for the other player to make all their moves. There is a V2.0 set of fan rules on Board Game Geek that allows players to move 3 figures per turn (which seems a nice balance between the two views) which is apparently a great way of playing the game, but I haven't yet tried it that way myself.
