Some fun facts about the FG-42: It was designed for use by German paratrooper units called Fallschirmjager, hence Fallschirmjagergewehr 42 (paratrooper rifle 42). It was more or less intended as a universal weapon that would fill the roles of both an infantry rifle and light machine gun. The Luftwaffe required that it have a bayonet, but the designers, like you, thought it would be unnecessary, so the bayonet they used was just a small spike largely copied from the French MAS-36 rifle, that fit the minimum requirements set for the gun. Sort of an interesting parallel between real life and BF5 I thought I'd share.

I can't wait until a bipod fix rolls out. MMG's are already my favourite guns to play with, and I expect the MG 42 to be even more deadly once I can reliable deploy the bipod

the KE7 is so good that playing with a sten just feels sad.

The bren is quite a good medium-longrange option when equipped with a scope, the steady rate of fire and good tap fire capability makes it suprisingly nice to use (basically you can treat as an mmg)

I feel like mmg are a bit redundant with the supression mechanic removed. Snipers have an easy time headshotting you and there is nothing you can do about it.

The support class is definitely the most fun class in the game at the moment

The Bren gun is really nice with a 3x scope, as it's accurate by default, there's a nice specialization path that heavily favours stationary accuracy as well as improved bipod, and having the top-fed mag doesn't matter for visibility purposes when you're looking through the scope

I own a 12g automatic irl. It’s actually called a browning automatic 5. I use it for bird hunting. Fun to shoot.

I really love the Lewis this time around. However, I go with the bigger mag. Having almost a hundred rounds makes it great for suppression and holding down positions. You can shut down approaches in a lot of maps.

Great guide Jack, since Battlefield Vietnam my "go to" class has always been Support. Loving the Lewis with medium range scope and high velocity rounds in Battlefield V. I've almost unlocked the FG42, but really looking forward to getting my hands on the MG42. A bit disappointed with the gadgets, a mortar would have been nice - maybe in a future update?

Best class in the game sooo much fun, and also the most helpful giving out ammo, I'm actually really really surprised the attrition system is hardly noticed because support and medics now actually do there job. Loving bf5

people complaining about the KE7, but nobody complains about the M1A1, more range, way more easy to control the recoil and a lot of damage.

When i was in the army, i was an LMG shooter. And our weapons was the MG42, its still in service in some departments in the danish army. And the 1200 rate of fire is the actually rate of fire on them :) It is impossible to burst less then 2-3 shots :D it comes with an extra barrel, and you change it by hitting the right side of the barrel incasement, and the barrel pops out, your helper then graps it with a speciel heatresitant "glove" and replace with a cool barrel, ready for 4-500 shot more ... In the ammo belts, every 5 round is a tracer round, so it can make quite the light show when its dark outside. Love this gun!

This is the one class I have neglected to use. I am working on leveling it up this weekend. I want my MG-42. Already using the MG-34 and loving it. KE7 is good but it's so good it feels like cheating.

lol i actually maxed out the bren gun, and got the gold plated set for it :p got gold plated set for medic mp 40 and assault m1a1 carbine... prob not the most popular weapons but just what i liked.. the bren gun though is kinda annoying to use.

I play on the xbox one version, and I know it might be my eye sight but I'm having trouble seeing the enemy. I always end up dead with the guy standin 20 meters away or some shit like that

Jackfrags I did find the increased rate of fire for the MG42 to be very useful with the incendiary rounds to shoot down planes. It helps you keep up with the planes speed and get some good hits. It’s a shame you can’t get the big belt as well with these two

support has always been a favorite for me, just the ability to reload and kill. The self ammo in bfv is also great.

One of my favorite aspects of the KE7 is the sound design of rounds firing. You can hear that scratchy metal sound as it pops rounds off. Fantastic sound design

For the MG 34, if you're the type to set that baby up and hold a location, and not run and gun as much as Jack does, go down the right side instead of the left. The better weapons cooling and the faster reloading magazine (that also gets 25 more rounds) are the most important upgrades to note. You'll be able to keep actively holding the position with as little downtime as possible, to reload or cool the weapon. Plus, I'd not opt for the faster fire rate, in this case. It's already more than capable of killing faster than any gun that tries to challenge it with bipod set up. If you pick it, you just unnecessarily chew through ammo faster.

well, in my case, it was the mmg's that were adjusting to me, not the opposite. I had never tested those before and they fit perfectly to my style of play. thanks for the guide, great content !

Almost all I’ve played since release is support, Lewis gun is by far my favourite out of the LMG’s. It’s an animal at close and medium range especially with the 3x scope and extended mags

Lewis gun is perfect in all scenarios. It seems when you put a scope on any weapon other than carbines and snipers the weapon becomes inaccurate but the Lewis gun is a monster.

It’s so weird to see a reflex sight on the Lewis.

I really wish the reflex sight wasnt tinted at all, like the Nydar sight. I still find it hard to use, compared to the Nydar, and often choose iron sights over it, simply because visibility thorugh it is difficult

It’s honestly really fun to find some fortifications overlooking an objective and just setting up an MG nest.

I believe our games are somehow different.. I couldn't wait to get rid of the KE7. I almost feel unarmed if I come across more than one enemy with it. Or someone outside of 25m. The recoil and damage is unbearable. Aside from the gewehr 43, the Lewis gun is my favorite. It's a monster compared to the KE7.

Stuck on the 20 headshot kills in objective areas for the M1A1 carbine.....

I use the Bren 70% the time I play Support. Once you get past the magazine visibility issue its laser accurate and has very controllable recoil when standing (if you specializing with the decreased vertical recoil). I like using it in longer range combat maps like Twisted Steel or Hamada. But to each their own.

I recently got 98-12 on Hamada with the MG-34 using all left-hand stats. My favorite is still the MG42 because "buzzsaw".

The Lewis Gun is what I’ll be using permanently in all honesty . It’s so versatile . Even close range hip fire is pretty reliable

I enjoy the KE7 but it's overpowered in my opinion. The reason why I say that is because it's an assault rife with a bipod. If we combine that plus unlimited ammo (by resupplying) and a skilled player it's a monster. Yes I had good games with it here and there but they need to nerf it or remove the bipod(in my opinion).

Really struggling to find my class and gun so far. Was mainly assault in bf1.

Agreed support is the most fun and mist variety class. Ke7 is my least played weapon. Love Adolfs buzzsaw and shotfuns:)

I've gotta say, I've never been excited for unlocking so many weapons in a battlefield game! In all the previous games there where only one or two guns I really wanted but in this one I want almost all of them because they seem so much fun and quite different :)

3x sight on the Lewis is terrible now. They added a bar on the ammo drum which blocks off some visibility when aiming down the scope.

Some specializations trees are changed with new update.

They should put Bren as the starting Support gun.

One of the specializations should be a tripod to allow you to use the bipob when crouched by just setting it up on the ground. But maybe you could only hip fire when bipoded like this with a little bit of a accuracy penalty over bipoding it normally, it would really make mmgs more useful.

I actually like the FG42's bayonet. Especially with that small magazine. It saved my life numerous times in CQB. Enemy was reloading, so was I. So I just charged at him and spiked him up. :D

KE-7 is my go-to, but I LOVE the M30 drilling, absolutely a joy to use

I hipfired a Stuka with the MG42, equipped with the higher rate of fire and incendiary rounds. That was my favourite Battlefield V moment so far.

Finally the support is getting some serious love, machine guns finally playing the way they should, never felt at a disadvantage playing support in BFV like I've felt in other titles.

I think if DICE made the MG42 a 100 round belt by default, the increased rate of fire upgrade would be much more viable without diminishing the value of the extended belt upgrade.

Went 66-6 in Devastation with the MG42 its a beast, get the 250rnd belt and the overheating reduction you can put up a wall of lead on the C objective

FG-42 is my shit. Currently working to get full gold plate, only got two parts left. On a different note the epic grear for support looks awesome. The Axis Hades outfit is particularly badass.

I can't wait for Medic, Assault and Sniper best guns and skill trees :D
