detailed documents with real and accurate information do not come by instantly in real time. it sometimes took decades after ww2 to uncover accurate info for historians and such. though the use of spy satellites and people recording things and uploading them into internet in this war is pretty real-time and open source, so this war might be an exception.

I've covered the 1st GTA a little bit via the original short loss video in the first couple of weeks and the T-80 video, with the emphasis being on the 4th Guards Tank Division. It's a little harder to keep track of a unit that big though after they withdrew from the Sumy area and got all mixed up near Izyum. Probably won't cover the 1st GTA since it's what everyone is talking about but could do something else of the sort

@RAD the rolf I don't think any air force in the world has encountered the sort of air defense that the Russian Aviation Forces encountered in Ukraine. When you look at both Ukraine and Russia in terms of plane tally then it seems very weird that they aren't controlling the skies. But if you took into account S-300 batteries, SPAAs, MANPADS (the things that inflicted the most casualties on Russian airpower) then it suddenly makes sense. Ukraine is littered with the stuff, as the Soviets had (and the Russians still do arguably) the largest and most capable air defense forces in the world, as a counter to the USAF. Plus, the Russian Aviation Forces are not the USAF and never were, as it was never Soviet or Russian doctrine to overwhelm the enemy with airpower since in a confrontation with NATO they would inevitably get crushed in the air. So it's a matter of an average air force taking on a pretty good air defense network.

Sooner or later, one way or another, Russians has to learn to coexist with their neighbours instead of subjugating and exploiting them. I should ask the question, which is better to use. A brigade setup of troops, or a division set up of troops, each have their pros or cons, just asking because I’ve wondered this for a while
@aleksaradojicic8114
@aleksaradojicic8114 Жыл бұрын
Depends on conflict you (may) fight. Brigade are more flexible formations compared to division (and regiments) in general, but on other hand, any casualties will hit brigade harder, compared to division. Personally, I think both should be combined and used. Relatively flexible and stronger combined arms brigades, combined with other support elements to form division (if there is need for one).

@aleksaradojicic8114
@aleksaradojicic8114 Жыл бұрын
@@quinlanels8503 Yes and no. It depends on divisional organisation, but changing of brigades between divisions or separation of brigades to do something alone is not unheard thing. But yes. Keeping brigades that spent a lot of time in one division, trained togheter and worked togheter can improve fighting strenght of that division. So no, type of formation (motorized infantry, armored and others) is not as so much important when you talk about division or brigade. For example, Yugoslavia during 1970s and 1980s decideth to move away from divisions towards brigades, because brigades were seen as faster to mobilize and move out of barracks compared to divisions (this was big issue during 1968 large manouveres started as response to Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia).

When the war first started I remember one of my friends being like "the 200th SMRB will be some of the best fighting forces Russia has to offer." And now just seeing of what they become. So much loss for so little gained. Completely unbelievable. Hopefully their families get given some sort of reparation for their loss, but knowing Russia, they won't, which is just more depressing.
