I met this man in 2014. I had never met or come into contact with a famous actor before that time. He was kind, generous and tried to have a real conversation with me like an old friend while I could barely respond to his questions out of sheer awe. A great man is Edward James Olmos.

I do love that when Adama asks for volunteers, there's no stereotypical "everyone steps forward". It makes the characters feel like real people because in reality, not everyone is gonna follow somebody, even if they admire them intensely. Only an extreme few in human history have been able to get thousands of people to follow them no matter what, such as Julius Caesar. Also, many of the people who do decide to join him are Raptor pilots and Marines, showing how their commander has earned diehard loyalty out of most of those under his command.

That and they are the ones best suited for the mission. It's potentially a one way trip that needs the best chance to succeed, which means the best personnel. They are the least likely to crack under pressure and are also the ones less likely to leave anyone or anything behind if they don't come back

There’s a bit of a WW2 analogy there. By late ‘43 and early ‘44 the US Essex Class Carriers were starting to appear. Bigger, faster, more modern, and more powerful than what had come before. But the Japanese still worried more about the USS Enterprise, the last of the Yorktown Class. Sometimes known as the a Gray Ghost for her seeming ability to show up anywhere, at anytime, unexpectedly and ruin their day. Even as it was surpassed by newer more capable ships, it still held some (justifiable) mythic status. A lot of the Galactica v Pegasus elements are pulled from a WW2 Enterprise v Essex’s dynamic.

@WildCharger 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, it doesn’t break the rules at all. Canonically, Galactica has two FTL drives. It’s safe to assume two short range jumps into and out of the orbit of a nearby planet are completely possible. The working method of short-range jumping (or “hopping”) has been implemented in other Colonial ships - and considering Galactica’s role as a hybrid carrier/battleship, it arguably had a lot to gain from having two FTLs installed, which justifies why they were there at all.

@@WildCharger This. The Cylons demonstrate hit-and-run tactics using FTL jump drives until now, so it's not universe-breaking to realize that the colonials had this capability on their flagship all along, but saved this tactic for an impactful moment as this. Just add more jump-drives. It's the obvious solution.

Yes, what an Arc they had. At first both Adamas were skeptic when it went to Roslin, Lee was the first on to really see how capable she was. They had their conflicts and i still think about how ironic it is that Adama basically let a coup against Roslin just to stop Roslin from another one later..... after the former promoted him to Admiral. And i just like how well and natural the romance between them was written, they came together over a couple of years.

Even though you could say it was the writing in the future - it was so refreshing to see that piece of crap hand a firearm over and literally grab the guy "you watch her ass you hear me?!" - shows that the man did have respect and a line that was drawn sometimes.

William Adama is such a character, it's not ups and downs, it's always a Character (as gen. Schwarzkopf loved in people), he has always been a really great, I mean - he has no "oh he shouldn't have done that" moment in entire of franchise I think, and it's crazy

Hey BSG channel, could we get a best Adama chewing people out video? I'd watch them. He could make a grown man cry.

I would follow Adama to hell and back. In both the original series and the reboot. So say we all. 🖖

I heard two sounds of lock/latch mechanisms. There could have been another on the outside, or another outer door as well.
