Battletoads the Arcade Game is Kicking its way to the MiSTer FPGA DE10 NANO | WIP Core

Күн бұрынNot only did we get an update to the Sega Saturn Core for the MiSTer FPGA DE10 NANO by Sergey Dvodnenko @srg3203 but we are also getting a Battletoads Arcade Game Core. Thanks to Marcus Jordon (Boogermann) for compiling the core so that a noob like me could try it out. So a massive thanks to Sergey and Marcus.

The more arcade cores I see coming to Mister, the more I truly can see a time when Mister supplants MAME as my dominant retro arcade platform of choice. Battletoads is one of the games on my Wishlist that can soon be crossed off. What a wonderful surprise to have for this week.

It's been a strong few weeks for fun beat 'em ups, I don't remember seeing this one in the arcades back in the day, but that sprite scaling when the enemies are thrown out the screen still looks good now 😊

What a crazy month. First we get Ninja Baseball Batman and now Battletoads which were really hard beat em ups to run on mame, now flawless on Mister. Sign me up!

Hmm, I never had a issue with running either one over the years, it really depends on which mame version you are using as well as the specs of the computer.

@@JayBlackheart it's hard for me to enjoy MAME now, as I can feel the input lag so much more since getting used to MiSTer lol. I find RetroArch to be a better option with runahead switch on.

@@PixelCherryNinja To each and their own. I've always used MameUI64 with a PS2 or Xbox 360 controller, never had input lag. Only way i could see that happening is if you have a lot of USB connections going

@@JayBlackheart I have a decent spec machine, with nothing crazy going on. The lag is there. If you can't feel it, that's good for you, I was okay with it for a long time, until I started going to the arcade again and playing the MiSTer. MAME is still fun, but there are certain games, where you can feel the lag more. Edit - typo and additional line

This is too awesome! By the way, what's the background on this game? I remember this being available on Xbox One for some time, maybe through the Rare Replay collection, but I also heard that the game was in it's near completed stages. Is this not a "rare" arcade pcb?

It's from a legit arcade PCB (which opens up some other PCBs like MK 1,2,3, NBA Jam, and a few others). Battletoads didn't do well at all in the arcade, but it was released on Rare Replay as you said. However, the arcade board was fully completed and released, it just tanked. The core is WIP, but the game was complete.

Having trouble installing this one. I've been subbed to srg32's patreon for months. Got the battletoads zip from the MiSTer forums but I couldn't understand the instructions, help!

Copy and Paste from Terminator2k2 put rbf file in cores folder (edited) - mgl file in with arcade mra files requires btoads.zip, you'll need to rename some files and place them in a Battletoads folder in /media/fat/games btco-p0.u120 -> btc0-p0.bin btco-p1.u121 -> btc0-p1.bin btc0-s.u109 -> btc0-s.bin

@@PixelCherryNinja Huh, I did that and it still didn't work! I'm running this on a CRT. Do you think it's possible it doesn't work on older style TVs? This is especially confusing because I got TMNT to work. Thanks for lending a hand!

@@Muda_Muda_Muda_Muda__ sorry to hear. I have my MiSTer going to a LCD monitor via VGA and a capture card via HDMI. Both of those worked fine. I don't have space for a CRT, so haven't got one set up 😟
