And there are a lot of champs who get punished for not getting kills (if you're 0/0/0 on katarina at 15 min you're out of the game). Not every champ is played the same way. Also he is 11cs/min and took platings and towers. It's not like he is just dying without doing nothing.

Dying as many times as you want without being able to effectively fall behind because your braindead champion allows you to do so isn't "macro play and economy management". He did contributed by wasting the time of the enemy jungler and it is a huge contribution and proxying is a good way of protecting his own tower.

So basically, here’s how it works. He isn’t trying to have a good kda, he’s trying to maximize his gold. The idea is that due to sions passive and his Hp scaling, he can literally just sit there and farm the whole game along with intentionally dying early to get free resets, and still manage to take tower after tower due to his insane gold advantage. Every time he died he was getting way more items then people tend to get when buying on death, and he even took his tower in lane first before kayn did. Besides, people too directly correlate kda with skill. A lot of the time, dying to make a play is way better then staying alive to keep up your kda. Hell, self executing after killing somebody level 1 tends to be better then just recalling as it’s much faster and lets you avoid the chance of them getting a revenge kill. (Although, that’s more matchup/patch specific). He’s challenger for a reason.
