🌿 Baxter Falls Sunshine Coast Waterfalls ~ Queensland
Baxter Falls is a lesser-known waterfall nestled within the lush rainforest of the Kondalilla National Park, near Mapleton in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. It is part of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk.
We walked to the falls from the Northern track; this is a four-kilometre return track that starts at the intersection of Obi Obi Road and Suses Pocket Road in Mapleton.
It's important to note that parking is not available at the start of the trail on Suses Pocket Road, so we parked on Obi Obi Road and walked 300 metres along Suses Pocket Road through the gate to the start of the track.
The undulating rocky track winds its way to Baxter Creek, down steps and along multiple switchbacks through the Kondalilla National Park. Take care after rain as the track is muddy and slippery. It is also relatively narrow and drops off at the edges.
You then emerge from the rainforest and see the Metal Suspension Bridge. Note there is a limit of two people on the bridge at any time.
Baxter Falls is a 22-metre horsetail waterfall created when Baxter Creek cascades over the rocks into a small pool below. It is a permanent waterfall best viewed after recent rainfall.
After enjoying the peace and tranquillity at the base of Baxter Falls, we walked back along the same track.
