This is my biggest fear of getting old. Being taken advantage of and being abused by people who are being paid to take care of me in what are supposed to be my “golden years.”

I don't trust nursing home. My dad was in multiple nursing homes temporarily after getting out of the hospital and need to be mentored. I kept transfering him to different places because each one of them are just neglectful and also doesn't care what happened to the elderly. They literally neglected him and mostly wanted to drug him up to make their job easier. They gave him morphine without my awareness and had him sign a bunch of things he wasn't aware of while drugged up. Plus they tried multiple times to misinform me about my dad's wellness meetings. I was only made aware talking with the social workers and being actively asking when the meeting was. The head nurses mostly told me I don't need to show up and I'm busy with work. I don't care I took time off just to make sure I know my dad was taken care of. At the end I had my dad removed from nursing homes especially he worked hard in physical rehabilitation to be able to walk again. He stilled needed a nurse to check up on him at home but overall he never wanted to go back to a nursing home. It was depressing and other residents are also sad and crying and wanted out. It's a horrible place to grow old in. I rather die early than have these people take care of me when I'm old.

Thank you for your reporting. I had to call 911 on a Marin facility for my husband's week of care in a "skilled nursing home" after a leg amputation for all around severe negligence. These vulnerable humans need people to CARE.

I know this hospital. The guy who lives across the street upstairs is suspect. We see him all the time over there.

The state needs mandatory reporting laws and training immediately!! There’s jails for them and all should require a 911 call and police involvement or immediate closure.

It cost like $6k a month at these places

Thank goodness my Mom was able to live in her own home, cared for by my brother and sister.

It takes compassion and a lot of patience to do this job. In some states the pay has risen quite a bit in then last 15 years. So screening your employees is very very important more so now. Most people will choose this profession cause of the hourly rate instead of McDonald's. But what they fail to understand is mentally emotionally and physically it is a hard job...When it's done right. It's not just a babysitting job like most people think. They are family and human beings

My mom n dad n my husband mom n dad is not going in a nursing home they are my parents now when my husband took me as his wife they became my responsibility
