Bay window curtain pole - (Dunelm Ashton 4m Eyelet Metal Bay Pole) Fitting & Custom fit

9 ай бұрынWhen I was asked to fit a Metal Bay window curtain pole. Especially a Dunelm Eyelet type, I couldn't say no. I wanted to see just how it fits in today's modern houses and just how they get around those bends.
Pleased to do this for one of my daughters and her partner. It was great to be able to custom make the extra bends and make it truly a bespoke job. The end result was lovely and we'll worth taking more time to get that brilliant look - The ends like a straight pole with the benefit of going into a bay.
What we did, could be done with two kits. However, I would be wary of the jointing in between the two corners or bends. So if you're less confident with my method. You could joint them. But I would tap a screw in behind to stop any twisting.

Brilliant job. 👍🏻many people want to use eyelet curtains on bay windows. It’s challenging but you’ve created a great solution.

Great content.i did the same but just measured and went to global tubes in worcester(Diglis) it came out nice. i really like how you undertook the whole process.

I've done a couple now and the best way is in one single piece. This kit is great for those who can put a few hours in. But the cost must have been a few hundred. Some places don't like single orders because there's a lot of set-up be it machine or cad. And few a few seconds to bend the tube.

Try using the skirting board to bend the pole as this follows the exact angle of the bay. Plus it saves your knees.

That's a long way from Worcestershire. All I can say is find a good local handyman. Get him to watch how I did it. It is fiddly to do and he's got to understand the situation with supporting timbers above, and have a plan if there's no structure in the centre.

I've done a second one for somebody near to us. It took 5 hours still. I think a 3rd would come down to 4 hours with noted time saving tips. Where abouts are you? Jamie

Great Vid, just had a question regarding the bay window, I can’t get to any joists for the ceiling arms, any advise for what fixings I can go for? I know it’s a lath and plaster ceiling

Thank you. Blimey it's a bit of a risk with lath & plaster. Drilling the hole could damage the lath. Maybe use a centre point drill. But you really could do with more structure behind there. Let me know how you get on. Jamie. Ps. Where are you?

Hi, will this mount flush to the upright piece of wall above my bay window? Or does it have to mount to the ceiling? (which wouldn’t really work in my case). Also, can the stop ends angle be altered? Or do they only come in that ‘flared out’ position? As mine would have to point directly into the room due to the angle of the walls around the bay

It depends on how you want the curtains to hang. If you want them to hang onto the window sill, you could wall/ window mount the centre. Did you watch the video on how I 'returned' the pole onto the wall? It's the only way unless you buy two kits and create 4 bends.

what size grinding disk would you recommend to do the cuts with?

A sharp thin but not a cheap rubbish disc that fits your grinder well.
