I have a 2010 175 I found in beautiful condition for literally a brother-in-law discount. 3.0L is not a Cigarette but I don’t want fast. Been a great boat! Yes, in the boat world it’s considered a starter, but I see it as a simpler boat to have. I’m more into cruising and piloting a boat with good music and exploring the waters of all kinds. It’s easier to manage and can concentrate on the experience 😎. Now that’s not saying that I wouldn’t get a bigger boat eventually 😏

Looks like it could use just a little higher pitched prop. Was over 5000 rpm I think on the tachometer but I suppose have to consider only one person and no gear in the boat. Nice looking and running boat.

I had two a 19 inch pitch and a 21 inch the 19 i used very rarely as it allowed the engine to. Rev too high and not seem to have to work at all whereas the 21 it was the best even w 4 people in the boat and a 200 lb skiier it pulled them the boat and all right out of the hole w out much of a struggle it seemed those 4 cyl motors have lots of low end torque the old Pontiac 4 cyl I. Believe and even on the top end w no one in the boat it ran 47 and turned 4300 rpms maxed out and trimmed out to be just barely porpoising almost but not quite I thought about doel fins but never got them enjoyed the boat a lot and never had an issue at least w the motor anyway the sterndrive I did but that was my fault being a newbie lol

One regret I'll always have is selling my 21ft Dixie Cuddy/WA. Same engine, MerCruiser 3.0 L LX with the Alpha l. Moved my boat at 39 mph full throttle, 42 with a good river current. 1 issue over 7 yrs I owned it, Power Steering Pump. Wish I could buy it back.

I curious about these. I live in Shetland and we can get a git of sea up here. The boat looks lovely and I'm considering one but they don't strike me as being suited to small / moderate swell?
@GulfStreamBoats
@GulfStreamBoats 3 жыл бұрын
They wouldn’t be the best sea boat. Much more suited to lakes & coastal estuaries. I think you’d be better with a self-bailing boat and maybe something with a closed bow around Shetland.

I got one of these a 1995 mint condition with maybe 100 hours of use on it in its life. Question is are those brackets on the back stable enough to tow a tube or wakeboard from? Does anyone have experience towing anything like that with these boats.

That 2000 1750 looks more modern than a 2006 175 with its square windscreen. Is the 1750 and the 175 a different model? I thought the 1750 was older than the 175, but maybe I'm wrong...
@GulfStreamBoats
@GulfStreamBoats 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not an expert on this, but to my knowledge the 1750 Capri was a curved windshield boat built from 1998 until around 2003. Then the 175 (with square windshield) was built from around 2004 until 2008. Then from 2009 onwards the Bayliner 175 was updated with a curved windshield again & moulded fibreglass deck. Hope this helps.

I’ve heard the 3.0’s Merc or Penta are notorious for cracks in the block and blown head gaskets. Is there any truth to that if properly maintained?
@GulfStreamBoats
@GulfStreamBoats 3 жыл бұрын
No more so than any marine engine in my experience. We actually tend to see more v6 & v8’s with serious problems. If properly maintained the 3.0L is a nice reliable engine.

Zero complaints for my 3.0L, gas hours are much more pleasing than the 5.0, 5.7, or the 7.4. But V8 engines sound like they have more problems because of lack of experience of maintaining marine V8s, many more moving parts which contribute to increase of problem probability, and the fact that there are ALOT of V8s out there. But yeah I would give 3.0L positive feedback 😎

A few months ago I sold my boat and a guy came to buy it, the engine was a 5.7 V8 and the test drive began, the rpm was at 5500, it was a boat from 2005 a little old and I only asked him to lower the rpm a little to no more than 5000 and subject took a very annoying defensive attitude. saying that if he was going to buy something he had to test very well and that he had a boat and always put it at 5500 rpm 4.3 v6 and nothing had ever happened
