How to tell if someone is a Marine: In 2023 they make a youtube video of how to mount a bayonet on a free float handguard for a modern AR platform. Not a Eotech attachment or laser/light attachment to your AR video...a bayonet attachment video! Brent, Bless you for your service. Thank you for your youtube content. I especially enjoy your historical content.

Yeah. If it was the best option available I expect that bb gun could be a useful tool with the right attachments. 20 shots per second at a bare face, and a big metal spike. An aggressor cant hurt you if he cant see you.

It would be great to see if a company like Ballistic Dummy Labs would supply one of their ballistics gel torsos for some bayonet testing to compare different mounting options! It would be interesting to see the stability of a standard mounting option with the correct barrel length compared to the loose setup with the 16" carbine. It would also give you a chance to go to town with the Geissele mount haha

thats sounds like a good idea except the zombie torsos at least are $1,995

Good stuff! I've seen one or two other options for Bayonet attachment units out there, but there definitely aren't very many on the market. Colt Canada/Diemaco developed the "Tri-Ad Mount" for the Canadian Army as a "discount solution" to the KAC Rail. It clamps around the barrel at the front sight base. I believe BCM makes their own version of the Tri-ad Rail, which might be easier to obtain than waiting for a real one to "fall off the truck"...

The British Army adopted the ISTEC bayonet adapter for use on the Sharpshooter DMR. I've never used it but I was pretty surprised it was even a consideration for it when it gets used.
@herknorth86919 ай бұрын
I recall there being a clamp-on bayonet mount back in the day. Can't remember who made it. If you have a 16" stick with lots of barrel exposed beyond the handguard, you could also get a M16 style FSB and pin it on the barrel like you would normally, as if you were going to use it for a gas block and then cut/grind off everything but what's needed to mount the bayonet and keep the whole thing on the barrel. That, of course, would require some know-how or for you to take it to someone who can do the work for you. I'm a machinist, so I'm biased! When that Rittenhouse vid came out, it struck me that the angry mob was totally unphased by the line of guys pointing rifles and shotguns at them. I wonder if bayonets would have changed the mob's behavior? At the very least, if one of them tried putting hands on your rifle, you'd have a stabby thing to instantly fight them off with. Maybe you'd even escape the treatment that the corporate press gave Rittenhouse, since that wouldn't be "gunviolence".
@mnguy989 ай бұрын
I'm 100% convinced that another Kyle Rittenhouse-esque event could be prevented by the addition of a bayonet. Once you add cold steel into the equation, people suddenly get a whole lot more hesitant to charge after you.

If you want to go with the Classic F marked Front Sight and have the right barrel length, there are replacements that have the Bayonet lug that’s NOT ground off. Takes a little Gunsmithing, but it’s an option. I believe that Midwayusa sells them for well under $50. Hope this helps.

The Belgian FAL tubular bayonet ($9 from SARCO) is designed to fit on a NATO standard 22mm, grenade launching muzzle device. IE the milspec flash hider on an AR-15. It indexes on the gas rings on the flash hider. That's what the grooves are for. It fits. I've tried it.

Cost me a smoke session and it was a one in a million shot, but I did impress my Drill to the point he turned to the rest of the platoon and said, "What Private Pascual just did was absolutely retarded, and will probably get you killed. But it worked this time, and if it works, it ain't stupid. This is the kind of enthusiasm and creativity I want to see for killing. Private, you earned the rest of the day off in the front leaning rest... let your example go forward for the rest of the class in how it's sometimes better to be lucky than smart. Also, good aim." Hello from Brazil. The video and some subsequent comments were very helpful. I am one of those guys who wants to have bayonets on all my military and SHTF long arms, including my home defense pump shotgun. Brazilian army doctrine is that bayonets are psicological and crowd control weapons, forget enemy paratroopers... They are useful to keep integrants of a mob at bay. You advance on them with a bayonet set, and they instinctively back up. Also very useful to contain prisioners. On both situations, it will also prevent people to jump and grab your barrel. If it doesn't, as you instinctively move back, they'll grab the blade. Last but not least, in a SHTF situation, you must have a knife on your kit, then why not make it do double duty as a bayonet? My Buck 188/M9 bayonet has the nicest survival scabard, with place for a mini survival kit, wire cutter, built in sharpening stone and other tools. Even on 1st world countries like yours, the most likely SHTF scenario is civil unrest, as you recently had. Rather than enemy paratroopers, your real enemy will most likely be your "fellow citizen". Use your bayonet so you don't have to use your rifle...

I'm not sure if they're still available, but HKParts had the USMC M27 bayonet lugs for sale for a while, and I've seen them pop up elsewhere. A simple band around the barrel that gets pinned in, would be permanent, but by far the best option if your handguard does not extend to the end of your barrel.

Thanks for this. I've found the lack of bayonet lugs on modern rifles a little bit off putting. For reference sake, check out Colt Canada's C8 offering (I don't know if they are merely proposals or if they are actually making them for militaries), but they use Colt Canada's ""MMR" monolithic upper (an updated M-lok version of the IUR upper which used picatinney rail), and still includes a bayonet lug on the barrel.

it seems like the best option for your money is build an AR with the classic midlength gas block front sight combo. You dont need to buy either mount AND you get another AR its a win win

If you have enough exposed barrel, you can get a bayonet mount pinned on the barrel. If you have a lot of exposed barrel you can even use an A2 front sight with a free-float rail. As far as using a bayonet with a suppressor, you would need a long and thick handguard that extends past the barrel, a slim suppressor, and one of those rail mounts.

there are barrel clamp bayonet lugs. if your handguard is short enough to expose the barrel length required, that could be a good option. or you could cut off a chunk of your handguard like klein machine does with their AR-RPKs to facilitate the use of a bayonet lug on a longer handguard. or you could get a shorter floating handguard and a normal FSP installed.

I realise you would have to have a similar flash hider to the Sa80 with a notch under the flash hider in order for the Sa80 bayonet catch to engage but, you'd have a bayonet that will have no part of the blade obstructed by the barrel - the whole blade available to stab. It'd literally be stuck on the end of the barrel. So obviously, you'd have to buy an new flash hider and Sa80 bayonet but, I'm sure it'd be a cheaper option and anyway, I'm sure the enterprising American firearm industry could make copies.
