I caught up with Bayou a few hours before his flight out of London sometime last summer. By this point we had spent a few weeks together in studio sessions, shows, running around the city of London shooting all sorts of stuff and finding little time to eat in between. (Check out this lil video of L2C: / chswefflzfd ) or ( this one of Here & There: / cjitlkxngsj )
We shot so much at the time. so much of which I'm still sitting on. but we had this hour long talk just hours before he had to get on a plane. I had told him all of my interviews have an element of pressure to them. They usually happen right before an artist goes on stage. But this conversation felt like it needed, deserved and demanded more time.
So catching a flight and having to pack fighting against exhaustion ended up being our pressure point for this one.
Bayou is a vibrant artist and watching him in action whether in the studio or on stage is a thing of beauty. As an artist, by far. he is one of the main talents I'm super excited about following going into 2023. Genre is irrelevant here. But I can tell you this, if you like one Bayou song, the rest are going to get you.
I really hope more people get to speak to Bayou and examine the depth of his musical exploration and process. He may not have all the words for it just yet. and tbh neither do we. But if you get the opportunity to see this man practice his craft on stage or in the studio. He will show you. Get in there and just be attentive. It's most definitely worthwhile.
