I would recommend for your friend to read the tafseer series written by Said Nursi, its a tafseer written La Ilahe Illallah; if I remember correctly its over 4000 pages in total.

Every time I read this ayah ,, a question cross my mind ,, the word "poured" normally used for fluids but what happened in this ayah is quite interesting because the word scourge is used for hitting not pouring ,, my question whats the purpose or whats the ayah is alluding to ,, by the way the word scourge is the only one in. The whole quran but pouring word is elsewhere in holy quran ,,
