John Mayer plays the way John Mayer plays. He's not overplayin, he's not playin sloppy, he's just like a little child that dreamed his whole life of playing next to this legend. Instead of analyzing this performance and nitpicking it for mistakes that aren't even mistakes, just sit back and try to enjoy musical improvisation for once in your life. Blues is all about the blue notes. The ones you call "sloppy". The thing I hate most about negative reviews is that they never seem to come from anyone who has ever done something like this in their entire lives. Oh and btw, happy birthday to the king.

BB King - such a humble, genuine man. I love it how he always recognises any musician who is playing alongside him. They may be not as good as he is, but he acknowledges them and that makes him a big, genuine man.

I was walking out of a vegas music store years ago, BB was walking in, we both stopped at the door, and gracious as ever he stood aside and said come on young man, I, being raised properly, also stepped back and said no sir you can go first. but he insisted, so I went ahead and said thank you sir, only when I went back in did the guitar tech say "you know who that was?... B. B. king". I hadn't even recognized him.

I got to see BB live back in 2004 and he’s was such a humble guy just a regular man. As soon as the concert started he was sitting on a metal folding chair at the edge of the stage and he said “Turn on these lights! I want to see who I’m talking to!” And I was in the third row center I could have reached out and touched him! He played his Lucille and he told lots of very funny personal stories. Most of them were about his ex wives LOL 😂 it was soooo SPECIAL getting to see him live. What a great guy he was and we MISS you BB ♥️

It's fascinating to see two very different career stages, years of life and levels of experience through their playing so clearly. Mayer is so eager, all over the place in the best way possible, full of energy. And the King has done this for so long that he doesn't even "play" anymore, he just sits back and lets the guitar do its thing. That said, two unvelievable fucking musicians. Amazing.

Its meant to b heard live too. Eating, drinking, dancing, while listening to a bluesman hit ur soul all night long. Its the only type of music I can think of that a live voice and live guitar is better than a fixed studio sound. They can tweak it in the studio to make it sound as clear and on rhythm as much as they want. It won't b better than hearing a grown man put all his pain in the mic during a live audience. Never

I noticed, John Mayar when he was just 15 y/o teaching himself the guitar/blues. Every day, after school, hed hide out in his bedroom, practicing. I knew when he had gigs with local pubs, BEFORE he was of age to drink alcohol he hit it big. Not only that, he reminded me of a young Bob Dylan, BEFORE the music industry labeled him as such. To this day, I truely admire John Mayer

I can't tell you how tired I am of this discussion. Under every single John Mayer video some idiots have to constantly compare Mayer to SRV, Clapton, Hendrix, B.B. King,... I mean - what is the point of doing that? First of all, it seems like people cannot get over the fact that Mayer is a undoubtedly great guitarist. You just can't say that he's a "bad" or average player. That's just not true! Simply judging him on his technique, speed, touch and tone this guy is a fucking great guitarist and far above the average player. I also think that blues lovers and Mayer critics can't get over the fact that he is so versatile. He came from Acoustic pop, went on to the blues and now ended up making two country records. Imagine SRV writing a pop song - I don't know if he could pull it of. And he doesn't have to but all I'm saying is that Mayer succeeded in every single genre by winning Grammy's, getting great feedback by other artists and selling millions of records. To me that is what makes him such a great musician that he is a pure pop artists, while being able to play a fucking solid and beautiful blues (Out Of My Mind), and on top playing some laid back country without using all the cheesy lyrics. People can't wrap their head around someone who can do that. Step into another genre and just cracking it. Many blues players dedicated their life to Blues music and there's nothing wrong with that. But there's this Mayer guy who dedicated his life to all sorts of music so he can't be the master of every single genre he plays. Well, he's definitely on his way to become a true legend if you ask me. Then thirdly all those people judging him and his guitar skills constantly try to argue against Mayers unassailable recognition by other artists. Clapton doesn't just say things like: 'He is a master guitar player.' for no reason. He isn't inducting SRV in the Hall Of Fame for no reason and so on. And then there's the big discussion over his private life. Oh my God. Get a life people! When I'm interested in music I don't care about who's girl this guys sleeping with. And if you're that kind of guy you at least gotta respect him for sleeping with a list of women many of us would be happy to only shake hands with. Imagine you're getting overpured with money and fame in your early twenties. How would you react? It's just plain naive and stupid to judge him on mistakes he made without us being in his position. Anyway, that's just what I've been thinking.

It really bugs me when people make music a contest. If there is one thing in the world that should NOT be a contest it is music. Well, artistic endeavours in general. Art is subjective and about expression. Both BB King and John Mayer are undoubtedly incredible blues musicians. Neither of them needs to be labelled as better than the other. They've both blazed their own trails and are fantastic at what they do.

I’m a huge blues fan! It calms the soul! I never really though much of John Mayer but watching this video multiple times now I can say I have respect. The beautiful thing about the blues not one artist plays the same! Mayer played his souls out! The king gave him some lessons and Mayer seemed to just simply enjoy playing along side such a legend who gave so much to the music industry. True artists are disappearing and it’s unfortunate!

One of these days I came across with this video in a playlist I had bookmarked years ago.And can't help repeatedly watching this. I read some comments which made me bewildered. J Mayer, when I watch the video and listen to him,-how he sings and plays guitar with the King of the blues-seems to me a Prince of the blues. Is he a pop star? Because he is a caucasian? Of course, White boy blues are well known here, ,but・・・ Brothers in Chicago!"'John Mayer for the mayor of the city! 'Cos he says Chicago-the greatest music city of your country." Is this a shitty joke?・・・ I see it must be nonsense. Sorry.I・・・I・・・I am a drunk asshole Jap. With love from Japan to J Mayer, late B.B and BROTHERS. I'm going to watch it again to listen how his guitar weeps. Thank you.

Inji Yuu I know I'm just replying to myself.Anyone! tell me, if you read this and are kind enough to teach me how to say 'Hi' to one who replied to me.I thought none of you 'GUYS' wants to talk to old&square man like me. If you know 'Jonathan', tell him about this.It will be my pleasure.

This video highlighted to me the soul and emotion BB King puts into his blues music how even masters need a lifetime of dedication to a craft to reach immortal status. Did he have passion - immeasurably so. R.I.P. BB King

say what you want about Mayer - but he respects the heck out of B.B. King. SRV is his biggest influence and he learned on the blues. And B.B. King knew that and was happy to be sitting next to him. period. he wouldn't have done it if he didn't want to.

This man Mr BB King who stole my heart many years ago when I first saw him in concert. I choose to sit up high and rock back and forth in my seat then stand and gyrate with his guitar. This man was a mentor to all these young pups who stood in his shadow and sought to emulate him in his genius and down to earth connection with the BLUES!! I love you Mr King and thank you for passing on your legacy so that we may enjoy even after you are gone to that big blues jam in Heaven
