Funny thing is he actually never changed key...he changed the context of the key to fit what he was trying to express...hard to explain...buy beautiful what he did no matter what we thing or try to explain it...this can't be copied or duplicated...

He started out playing a standard 12 bar blues form in key of B. Then, he called another tune in mid-stream, which was an 8-bar form, in key of G. So, yeah. He changed key.

I love his little 'in-between' riffs as much or more than his signature 'hits'. The tasty chromatic and chord bridges are hidden gems, and probably totally subconscious on his part. True genius, and a lovely guy. I interviewed him on his 50th birthday in Boston. I was only 19 at the time, and 50 was 'Old' to me. So I asked him "People your age start looking at the end, of things, what are your plans ? " He looked at me and said with a big laugh . "Hey Man, why don't you just bury me right here, right now!" I still have a photo of that moment , with my foot protruding from my young mouth .

Yeah. All of the BB King tutorials of his later stuff never allowed me to understand why he was so revered, and I never saw the connection between him and Peter Green. Finally heard the 1964 live album and realise how he played a vastly more sophisticated style before the late '70s - that it's genius and the clear main inspiration for Green's style of playing.

Part 2 of a show I happened on, quite by accident, one summer afternoon in 1968, and which changed my life forever. (It was on PBS, which, back then, was called "NET.") THIS is the King whose guitar-playing made all the Brits sit up and marvel... THIS is the King that sang so well that he could have sung anything. (Note the closing credits: Host Ralph J. Gleason would found ROLLING STONE with Jann Wenner a year or so later.) Addendum: He's been gone now, just over a year... ...and just like the departures of John Wayne, Robin Williams, and a very few others, I still can't accept it.

It’s loud in the mix but only at the beginning. Perhaps he lays back on his touch or tweaks the volume. Maybe B gave him the nod, and he corrected it. It’s a great blues feel, regardless. The horn section is nicely blended towards the end and abit out front. Nice.

Watching BB play it's impossible not to hear Peter Green who totally imbued his tone, sense of dynamics, and phrasing. Interestingly, his "Need Your Love So Bad" came after Fleetwood Mac's verion. BB's roots and influences came from blues and jazz, a mixture of T-Bone Walker with the "less is more" conception of Lester Young.
@progmeup
@progmeup Жыл бұрын
Fleetwood Mac recorded the song in 1968. B.B. King's version was released in 1968, but already recorded in 1967. He also played it live (in a much longer version), so it's very likely that Peter Green heard it from him.
