From the only aired once documentary of BBC(1986): "Hidden war" about the Greek Civil War 1946-1949
The documentary was aired for second time by the programme of Greek Television 1 "Thematiki Vradia" of the Journalist Stelios Kouloglou at the 13 April 2006 and you can download it all as a torrent at the address:

The fact is that the Soviet Leadership had acknowledged the British influence on Hellas even from the beginning of 1945.Such a huge blood toll could have just been evaded.

That has nothing to do with the white terror. There is a difference between “influence” and “oppression”. The Soviet Leadership never said go ahead and kill communists in the streets. This narrative that a civil war could have been prevented is so shit . The white terror could have been prevented but no. British are racist imperialist scums that only care for profits just like America

To this day as of 2024 Greece in still a divided country as so is Spain both had terrible and savage civil wars, but the Greek Civil War of 1946-1949 is less known outside Greece. Few books have been written about it, a film made in 1985 Eleni depicts a small yet poignant vignette of its effect on rural areas. If the Spanish war is better known for Guernica , Greece was used as a laboratory for a new weapon, that had appeared during the closing days of WW2 in Japan, napalm bombs, ironically the ancient Greeks and created it in Classical era the greek fire. This was not a BBC documentary, it was a Channel 4 one, and almost all documentaries are only shown once on British TV.

100% propaganda favoring the LEFT...The ELAS slaughtered civillians for no reason, cut their throats, butchered woman and children..dumped them into a well in Meligala...the worst atrocity in Greece

Their fight was futile. Stalin has already given Greece to Churchill in Yalta. And of course better for Greece that did not end up another Soviet puppet state. But let's also not forget that British empowered german collaborators to fight communists. And end of the day those people fought what they thought was the right cause.

"We fought for democracy". Said by someone living in a village in the 40s where the intervention of the state to his/her life was minimal to none at all. This is what some people learnt to say and actually said without any reasonable argument other than curses... so, this whole documentary is heavily prejudised, without actual historical grounds..

You dont seem like a person who has gone to a village in his entire life... Even today there are villages that whole families are so poor they dont even have internet connection. I still know villagers who send their kids to school with a piece of bread and sugar just to have enough energy to get through the day. Imagine back then how ravished would be the people of the villages. There were whole villages excecuted by Nazis (1 Nazi = 10 unarmed people, the Nazi law). And after all that, the Gorvernment refused to send colaborators in justice, Instead they discriminated against the left (which played the most important role in the resistance). The government never sided with the Greek people, because it didnt care about the Greek people. Let me ask you, all these money the allied forces gave to the Greek Governments (ex. thought Marshall law) what happened with them? Did enyone do anything at all for the poor people in these villages? Ofc they had to fight for democracy. You have to be one od these people who think that Democracy is just voting 1 time every 4 years for a government that is controlled by the Capital. As they say in my village, σκύψ' το κεφάλι σου ραγιά και κάνε τσιμουδιά!

in kalamata 1944 1600 members of thos e battalions were executed by ellas this action was legalized by the kazert convention 26th september and the greek goverment
