This used to terrify me as a young kid when we'd put a video (always pingu) into the VCR player. I remember I used to run out of the living room crying and screaming. It's almost like the music was quietly signifying something very tragic and unfortunate (like someone nearing death) that you didn't quite know the story behind. It only get's even more tense towards the climax, and once the music has ended, you're left with this very unsettling complete silence that fills the room, the kind of silence that used to signify something along the lines of... there's no need to worry, said person quietly passed away in peace during the jingle. In over words, this terrifying jingle used to make me feel like I wasn't alone in the living room, when I was.

You know? Seeing this logo on my Wallace and Grommit tapes when I was younger, it never really scared me at all. It sounded kinda cool to my young self and even better as an adult. Yeah it is a bit dark, but it just has this lights off kind of vibe to it which to me seemed like it was preparing you for the main feature.

When I was a kid, this logo was on my Bill and Ben the Flowerpot men VHS. Whenever it came on, I ran straight out the room crying. I’m not scared of it anymore to say the least.

Who approved this as a logo? Its so eerie, chilling, and makes one feel like they are mourning the loss of someone.

I don't know why, but every time I hear this, It sounds like something that would play on a game over screen. No joke.

I remember this BBC logo on my Noddy, Pingu, Postman Pat, Wallace & Gromit, Teletubbies and Fireman Sam videos back in the 90s even if I'm still living in France and when I heard the beginning of the tune I used to hide on my blanket, now that I'm an adult I'm not scared of it anymore.

I never found it scary. I do find it melancholy and I can see why some people would think it is like funeral music. Also from the 1970s to the 1990s lots of the idents had a black background.

In the 1990-1997 BBC Video theme, the Korg M1 MPC-00P programs patch "Piano" and Roland D-50 internal patch "D-50 Voices" were heard.

I feel bad for anyone who experienced this logo as a kid. Just putting in a VHS of such a happy and innocent kid show like Pingu or Wallace and Gromitt, and being treated to THIS thing before the feature presentation can be quite terrifying for a child. First off, the logo has a dark and gritty feel to it (the background mainly sets the tone). Second the music is real depressing. It has a funeral-like feeling to it, especially the ending note. Speaking of which, that last note makes me think of the ending of Quiet Riot song "Still of the Night", but that song didn't have a depressing feel to it.

Personally, this logo doesn't scare me, but for those who are scared of it, I can understand why, it's because of the music. I must admit, it does sound like a person just dyed. Imagine if you're playing a video game, your character dies and this type of music plays. (Note for Hetaoni fans: Imagine if it played in it. Pretty creepy eh? "/)

Ah, memories... I'll always remember this before Wallace and Gromit.

I was researching this logo and all the sounds that are present on the background music are from the Korg M1 synthetizer. The sounds used are: Grand Piano for the piano part, VoiStrings for the low cello thing and Choir for the vocal part, all tied up with a dark sounding reverb.

I never thought this logo was creepy at all when I was a kid, I always thought it sounded pretty cool.

From what I can remember when I was younger, I actually didn't mind this one all that much, despite the ominous theme. A memorable ident, but I definitely understand what people mean when they say that the music makes them think of a Game Over theme...

I remember seeing this on a Wallace & Gromit DVD I purchased when I was a kid.

I know this scared some people, but for some odd reason, I was never bothered by it. Then again, I saw this logo first when I was in 9th grade watching Wallace and Gromit in Science (Great day!).

I’m pretty sure we miss old idents and logos that we remember when we were younger I remember this when watching old dvds of pingu and Wallace and grommit that my older cousins owned when I went to Scotland every year and when I watched the logo appear I felt unsettled and distressed (I think we all had this reaction) checking if something was behind me as I felt shivers and goosebumps and felt like I traveled back in time to when this logo was around.

I have like 6 Doctor Who VHS tapes with this logo at the start and end. 2 were Jon Pertwee and the rest are Tom Baker. Except that one of the Tom Baker ones i have had the globe BBC logo from 1980.
