As a person born in the 1990s, who grew up watching the Six O'Clock and Nine O'Clock news intros during my early childhood, it's a real privilege to be able to track down this nostalgic featurette (after seeing it several times before).

I was always told that the 93 set was fake but I never understood How it was faked. Glad to say this provided the answer. It really is impressive how much this studio broadcasted every day is able to trick your eyes into thinking everything your looking at is real.

"What these clever little robots mustn't do of course is to get their wires crossed. Neither must they mow down or exterminate any humans who might happen to be on the studio floor." 🤖 4:48

The technology of the era was incredible and put to great effect. It was a classy and sophisticated look. That cut glass coat of arms with the spinning globe was sublime. The complete rebranding of BBC News in 1999 was comparatively unambitious and disappointing. They did away with virtual reality in the studio and the title sequence became messy and indistinct.
