there were such good tv tunes back in the 70s smooth and relaxing.

This is the first time I've heard the music since I was at school in the 1970s. I'm amazed how close the music as I remembered it is to how it actually was after all these years!

This tune I remember so well from lying on the couch at home off sick from school in the mid 70s. It's "A Tune For Lucy" by the Inigo Kilborn Group.

I've mentioned the Diamond to other people my age (I was born in 1971) and nobody remembers it. I was beginning to think that maybe my mind was playing tricks on me but their it is. Lovely to see it again. Thank you so much for posting this.

Ah the diamonds with Sara's Theme, often the go-to track for these visuals. Nice mock recreation.

I remember sitting watching this as a pre-school kid back in the day...it was at a day nursery and we'd have just finished our lunch. We'd sit patiently for some gentle BBC infotainment 'for younger viewers'. Watching the diamond brings it back into such clear focus, 40 years on. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for using a good quality audio source here. I've always liked "Lucy" & this is the first time I've heard it in decent s/quality. The funny thing about this ident (and the 'dots') is that instead of simply taping the sequence & playing the tape, the mechanical device was operated & broadcast live each time. (I recall that it wasn't always aligned correctly & was never the same twice), whereas, say, the old ITV regional idents were just film recordings. I wonder why? Union rules, maybe?

That looks like early computer graphics. It's too complex to be mechanical. The ITV idents weren't digital, hence the need for film.

I never "cottoned on" at the time that this tune was used before secondary school programmes, and the other tune before primary school ones. I just thought they used either of them indiscriminately!!

Don't ask me why, but this reminds me of Doctor Who. And this version was uploaded three days before my last birthday which was crap.

@579enact Pity this wasn't called "Wendy/Zoe" or "Katy/Jo" or "Elisabeth/Sarah", oh well.
