ITV Daytime in 2022 is an example of their cost saving cheapness = subletting BBC Studios at Television Centre to make Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women, all in two BBC studios from 6.00am until 1.30pm every weekday. Cheap!

God can anyone remember how fire ITV became at the end of the 90's. Those bids they couldn't pay. God only knows how much more of the programme budget was cut by 2000!

ITV are dead today - repeats, reality shows, tacky talent programmes and cheesy shit

If they would take some of the millions away from Simon Cowell's dying X Factor and put it back into their news output, it would be a start. Since 2004 they have been stuck in the green screen virtual world of death studio. ITV News needs a big change.

@Anthony Pond will never happen. The ITN News Channel wasn't a success, limited budget, no investment and left to its own devices until itv decided its money was better spent elsewhere and closed it in December 2005

GM-TV. What an utter flop on launch.

They all bought each other out and now itv is total dross thanks to greedy Carlton and Granada.

Carlton and Granada bought out all the English and Welsh franchises. UTV still remained firmly independent until 2016, and it was down to their own fault that ITV PLC took them over after the failure of UTV Ireland. Carlton/Granada merged in 2004 to form ITV plc. Swallowing up Channel Television in 2011, then UTV in 2016. The only independent station left is STV in Scotland (who themselves swallowed up Grampian).

I lived in the Grampian region just after it was renamed STV. Hardly one single Scottish programme made. And they go on about Scottish Independence. Anything made soon came to an end. They might as well sell it to ITV because all they do is take the feed from the ITV network.

0:47 - Nice to see the smug Leslie Hill of Central Television smiling here, because by January 1994, Carlton Television bought the whole of Central Television outright, it had owned 20%, but they bought the lot, and Mr Hill's smile fell as fast as the ratings for ITV did by the year 2000.

Bet he made a fortune from the shares he held in Central. Like Dyke & Bland when they didn’t stay loyal to LWT and wouldn’t work for Granada

Leslie Hill wanted the 20% restriction lifted and then told the Central shareholders to sell out to the appalling Carlton.

If I'm correct, the "9 largest ITV licensees" would be Carlton, Granada, GMTV, Central, LWT, Yorkshire, Meridian, Scottish and HTV in that order. Please correct me if that is wrong.
