Philip Tibenham visits pop singer Dave Edmunds, whose solo cover version of The Ronettes' "Baby I Love You" has reached the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart. How can one person create such a big sound? The multi-talented Mr Edmunds demonstrates how he single-handedly produced the track - by recording himself playing every part; drums, piano, guitar, percussion, vocals, and then mixing it - all from the confines of a derelict Monmouthshire barn.

Dave was my hubbys mate, back in Wales. He got hubby a good apprentice job, as electrician, but sadly it didnt pay much, and he was supporting his mum and nan, so he had to leave, and became a carpet/ layer. When Dave came to Australia, we met him at the airport, and after his show, invited both of us to the after party🎉We had 3 young children, and had to get back to them, as my parents were looking after them. Dave is such a humble person, and hubby remembers going to his jam sessions, with fond memories, and how Dave showed off, diving from the high board, to impress the girls😂😂

It’s great that the tens of thousands of Dave Edmunds fans from all over the world can see him here, so young, at the start of his musical career. Now in his retirement from the business it’s a wonderful piece to see, perhaps for the 1st time.

Dave Edmunds has always been one of my heroes, since he uses his immense talents to build great pop music. Everything he plays is just meant to sound good and appropriate, and not to impress with speed or even weirdness. He shows that pop is a true art form, as did many others, admittedly, but also that pop songs can be timeless. He, along with Roy Wood and Nick Lowe, kept the spirit alive for a long time, and a lot of their work still sounds great.

Dave is a true rockstar and also a studio mastermind...he was very open-minded and diverse...90s was cruel on his types although he practically retired then...he is in a class of his own...always has one foot in the 50s/60s.

First record I ever owned was Dave Edmunds' Crawling From the Wreckage. My musical tastes went on to be punk and metal but I always loved Dave's music. My fave DE songs - Queen of Hearts, Crawling From the Wreckage, Singing the Blues, Louisiana Man, S.O.S, Slipping Away, Steel Claw, Girls Talk. Thanks for the music, Dave. Rock on!!

Nationwide that's a blast from the past a interesting insite into how a song is recorded .Dave Edmunds is a multi instrumenlist ,singing ,playing all the instruments himself ,which is no mean feet in its self .A modern day Mike Oldfield who recorded Tubular Bells a 1973 masterpiece.
