At the moment. I think 5C counter have the best damage output and without meter you will do around 5000 damage in midscreen.

Please read; it is long, but will explain your problem. The numbers represent the directions of the inputs; 5 is neutral, 2 down, 6 forward, 4 backward, 3 diagonal down forward and 7,8,9 are up directions. A,B,C and D are the inputs you've arrange your controls with (check your button settings to see what you've put ABCD in) as they're standard arcade input buttons with a joy stick. Inputs such as 22b is down down B, which you have to input on your controller. Other inputs like 236 is down, diagonally down forward, forward and 623 forward, down, diagonally down forward are inputs similar to 22b. I recommend you look into the character you're wanting to play and get a feel to their move set (mess about with the controls and buttons and find results), and practice on challenge mode to learn the weird inputs (e.g. 22, 236, 214, especially 623; they will show the movement of the input rather than the numbers, as the numbers are just note form of standard fighting game combos. Stylish is the simplified version, where you just mash a single button (mainly A) to get a combo all the while feeling stylish without much effort. Learning technical style will make the game easier to beat and funner to play (in my opinion). As for technique, you have to learn how your character works and look into other players tactics to dealing with combos. I input the buttons as soon as possible so I get enough time to land a hit without the opponent tech-ing out (recovering), though it's not always the best thing to do in certain combos.
