Trump set a deadline of May 1st to evacuate American troops. Biden extended it to the end of August. Trump also negotiated the release of 5000 militant Taliban fighters, including the individual who has become the de facto president of Aghanistan. Trump didn't receive much in return. There's no question that the Taliban would have filled the vacuum left by American and other troops who'd leave. This would have occurred under Biden, Trump, Obama or Bush. Now, the Taliban staged a blitzkrieg insurgency, surprising many by their speed. And, the Afghani government, including the self-exiled president and the commanders capitulated without a fight. They surrendered their weapons to the Taliban! They were rolled up as smoothly and rapidly as the French were when the Nazis smashed through France during WWII. If they couldn't muster the will to fight for their own rights and land, how can you expect America to hold their hand any longer? After twenty years and they're back to square one. My heart goes out to anyone, especially the women, who will be subjected to the "tender mercies" of Sharia law. It is no surpise that so many Afghanis wish to leave and are panicking. The Biden administation is welcoming those Afghanis and their families who helped us, but the interesting thing is that a lot of Trumplicans are against allowing them shelter in their states, but at the same time decrying Biden for his "neglecting" Americans and their Afghani assistants who are still there. That's disingenuous. Biden will ensure that all of them are evacuated. Biden and many Americans wanted out of this war, costly in terms of lives lost and trillions of dollars. One huge problem was that the androcentric Afghani government never consulted or armed their women. Unlike the men, women have the most to lose under Sharia law. I doubt that they would have capitulated as rapidly as the men or surrendered their weapons. Unless you expect America to stay in Afghanistan forever, this would have been a given. Can America evacuate all of the oppressed women or control the Taliban? Anyone who thinks so is delusional.

People rant about politicians who are enslaved by money, but if you offer those same persons 1 million Dollar, those persons would also follow orders. It is all about weakness and control. When God introduced the Laws in the bible it was to show humanity their "fallen, corrupted nature" and how the dynamics of receiving eternal life had changed as a result! Unfortunately up till this day, some people believe they are without sin and have no need for a Savior etc even when evidence stares them in the face. "Man, you are going to need a life jacket to survive these waters", "No! I'm alright I can swim!". "Your swimming skills at their very best will not help your situation", "I'll figure it out when the time comes". Thank God for Jesus!

US soldiers in Afghanistan had less casualties then police do in the US. The ANA on the other hand had 7000 casualties in 2019, that's more than the US had lost in the entire war. We were barely fighting. We were literally just sitting in our bases to keep the Taliban out of Khabul. Leaving was cowardly, dishonorable, and cruel to the Afghan people, not to mention that we'll probably be dragged into conflict there in the future when the Taliban starts assisting terrorist groups like Al Qaeda again.

It was apparently about choosing lesser of two evils. The new government was corrupt from the very beginning. They ignored Afghans’ plea for extreme security and ate up the money of the army. Meanwhile, US teamed up with brutal war lords. That’s the formula for the rise of far right. Before the invasion, talibans were already done with each other. They even wanted to turn themselves in. The new ones insist that they are more mature than ever. That’s Machiavellianism, but even here people are falling for it.

What do you mean "allow to take over"? It's one of the native factions. Just like every country, there are multiple factions. So why isn't Afghanistan not allowed to have one? Labeling Taliban as a terrorist group, but so is ETIM. Conveniently the ETIM was removed from that list. It is the west who are meddling in Afghanistan for 40 years. Just let the native factions govern themselves. Interventions should only be when solid evidence and votes has been passed on a bilateral stage such as the UN.

The Afghan army was equipped with the best weapons, not the taliban. However, they were so dysfunctional and corrupt that members would go unpaid for months, their superiors would steal it, etc. See some documentaries about it. The Afghan army could never hold the Taliban, and the generals gave bad info to Pres Biden which caused this botched withdrawal. In 20 years, nothing was changed, those generals sucked up 2 trillion dollars and show nothing for it. The Taliban offered $200 to soldiers to handover their weapons and its how they took over so fast in some places.

So what is the answer, stay another 10 years, continue to nation build, spend trillions more, lose another couple thousand soldiers, eventually the Afghan people have to take control of their own destiny, the US accomplished their goals, and left the Afghans in a position to compete for their country and they lost due to the lack of solidarity to the central government, corruption, and lack of leadership, but they were equipped and trained, but lacked the will

Leaving people there to be killed and raped doesn't sit right with me. Why are we negotiating with people like this? We have the resources and men to get rid of them so why didn't we after all this time and then train the afgans an army? Leaving our shit over there with no confidence in afganistan to defend themselves was just stupid. So much progress and development over there all for naught.

All that aside, it's a little hard to understand why Afghanistan didn't have time to train an army that would at least stand up to the Taliban given they had American weapons and assistance to do it. Instead, it sounds like they surrendered weapons and themselves to fight for the Taliban. Guess it all depends on who's paying them.
