The attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania exposed a series of security lapses that allowed the gunman to mount his assassination attempt.
The gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to access a roof around 130 meters from the podium where Mr Trump was speaking.
It’s the job of the US Secret Service to protect sitting and former presidents. Somehow the gunman managed to breach the security perimeter with a rifle and reach an elevated position close to Mr Trump.
Video of the attack and the accounts of eyewitnesses suggest that members of the crowd became aware of the threat before the police and other security officials and attempted to alert them to the danger It was only when the gunman opened fire that officials recognised the danger and responded, with Thomas Crooks shot dead by armed officers.

It's not about the 20 year old, but the jawdropping security gaps, with no security on a roof with direct line to Trump, failure to respond to public pointing out the 20 year old climbing onto the roof with a rifle, police officer, going up the ladder to confront the 20 year old, but then climbing down, 2 security officers watching the 20 year old with a rifle for at least 42 seconds before the incident, but doing nothing, security guards around Trump not following protocol to the letter, a flag freely waving in the wind near Trump, which all security guards know can help a target sniper. Etc...

There was some interesting insight on X'd Twitter, from someone who'd worked Security for previous Presidents, talking about the issues of lack of communication between the various units working, etc.. It was titled "Police Officer DROPS BOMBSHELL about Trump's Shooting..." it was insight, not a "bombshell", but hyperbole is the game.

It was surreal to see and hear this kind of thing happening in my hometown but I firmly believe it was something that was going to happen somewhere some time and July 13th in Butler just got unlucky. Context matters. If the Blind reporter was on the ground reporting live they wouldn't stop the camera rolling because people are walking in the background. BBC could ask him to reshoot the report but i imagine thats why they kept that cut scene short and showed it only to reference they were there from the beginning

As a Brit who has lived in the USA for a few decades, I'm selling my stuff and moving home. My friends and life are here, but I see the writing on the wall. The violence, vitriol and hate that has been ramping up the past decade is unbearable. It's heartbreaking and mentally, spiritually and emotionally exhausting. The Global Peace Index has seen America drop to 132nd, in terms of safety, and that was before this shooting. Haiti, which most Americans consider an utter disaster, is only .21 marks worse. FYI, The UK comes in at 32nd, or so.
