This video saved my bank account, as a college student it was so much easier to do it myself then have a shop do it for $300. I only had to replace the serpentine belt technically but found it easier and cheaper in the long run to replace both as done in the video.

Just a heads up, when changing the AC belt, Mazda's official service manual recommends to NOT rotate the crankshaft pulley counter-clockwise. The reason being to avoid the crankshaft pulley bolt coming loose and the crankshaft pulley shifting position, which results in change of timing, which can cause major issues (interference for example).

Work perfectly thanks!!! Hints : Zip ties go through both sets of belts. I used ties that were 12” in length and were easy to install. Smaller ones I think would be more difficult. Went on without issue. Also jacking the car up made the job so much easier.

It worked for me. I just have a suggestion: please put the zip tights the place he recommended. Don’t be creative like and go to the left. Your zip tights will also hold the serpentine and will eventually be stuck in there. I had to make some effort to take them out! Second suggestion, don’t use thick zip tights. They will be troublesome! Good luck.

Really ? Good video ! But just 2 things for you and the viewers: Serpentine is ser pen tine, which rhymes with fine [tine]. And that plate under the a/c compressor is not a heat shield, it is to protect the belt from road debris, so the belt does not get cut or other damage. Stay safe.

This video was useful. But I had to loosen the serpentine belt first. Then place the zip ties and rotated the pulley. If you don’t loosen the serpentine belt, the zip ties will break and this video will be useless. Once you place the a/c belt. Go ahead and just tighten the serpentine belt.

I loosened the AC compressor bolts slightly and put the stretch belt on by hand, although it required a little back and forth rotating of the crank and a bit of force, I was able to do it all by hand. Torque down bolts back to appropriate torque, they are quite sensitive being all aluminum. They are 18-26Nm. I think removing the compressor bolts completely as was mentioned in another comment wouldn't work. It would end up being very difficult to line up the bolts with the threads due to the belt pulling the compressor in an angle.. Another jack could be used to push the compressor up so the bolts can go in, but it's even more work, and I didn't want to move the AC lines around too much or put pressure on the compressor housing.. I loosened the two AC bolts closest to the belt a little, and the two furthest from the belt more, so the compressor can angle up, then just did what was shown in the video, but turned clockwise, and held the belt onto the pulley with my hand while turning. Some awkward positioning, as you have to press on the belt right at the very top of the pulley at one point, from underneath the car. I removed all plastic covers because I was doing the alternator anyway so that helped.

I have a 2012 Mazda 3 with Skyactiv (unlike the great video that Oliver posted). I have a separate AC belt as well as the serpentine belt. However, on mine, it appears that the AC belt is BEHIND the serpentine belt. It looks like I can remove and replace just the serpentine belt (it is the one that is cracked and near end of life). For others that have done this, can I just replace the serpentine belt on the Skyactiv model? Thanks in advance for any responses.

You stated that your belt(s) still looked fine after replacing. How many miles/years on them? I'm trying to 'stretch' the amount of miles I can put on them - I believe most folks either over-maintain their cars or under-maintain them. Very few optimize part usage. My 2013 skyactiv-G with 70K miles still has all four original brake pads in 'good' condition. The latest mechanic 'review' at the dealership stated that it was time to replace them (belts), however. If I don't see any obvious issues (visual inspection), I'm hoping to go another year or 10K miles.

Need help i bought the serpentine belt,51.5 wont fit to big, change it for 50.0 and still wont fit, stll big whats the measurement for a 05 mazda 3 motor 2.0
@OliverPorter92
@OliverPorter92 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Autozone and Rock Auto's website says that the link that I have above (51.5) should work even on a 2005. Make sure that you push the tensioner fully against the stop to get the most room to fit the belt on. Hope it works!

If it is a non-skyactiv 2.0 G model should be the same. Many of the newer models have one single belt, which is an easier job, since you can just remove it via the idler pulley. If there are two belts the job should be similar, if not identical. Hope this helps!

Why would you cut a belt off? What if the replacement was the wrong length? Seen it many times, dont rely on the model number, printed size. Belts are one of the most commonly returned parts due to manufacturing, sizing and packaging errors. Bando is a good OEM though, but I still see 2 out of 5 returned for sizing errors.

@@OliverPorter92 Yup! If you watch you can see on the front of the compressor there is a hole that goes over a bolt/stud, and you "tilt" it back into position, tightening the belt in the process. I only did a handful of these years ago but here I am with a '13 Mazda3 getting ready to do it myself.
