BBSHD on 72V and 52V! Trying Cycle Analyst Dual Battery Feature

The Cycle Analyst has a feature where you can configure 2 batteries, and switch between those settings easily. I try that out in this ride, where i use both 72V and 52V for my single speed BBSHD. It's a Phaserunner V6 controller and Cycle Analyst 3
Sorry the overlay got out of SYNC for a while, its a huge chore to edit that into the video properly!!

I've been using the same pair of hookworms for the past 3 years. And they still look great. I have a modified 2017 radcity 2000 watts. Building a giant full suspension with a Toseven DM01 60volt. Great ASMR while building battery. 👍

One of my previous setups was multi voltage by using a large boost converter, 84V with the flip of a switch for maximum top speed regardless of battery charge level. It was awesome and I kinda miss it but I've switched to a larger 72V battery instead. In case anyone's interested it used a 45A 48-84V controller, a 52V 15Ah battery, and an 1800W 40A boost converter. I would accelerate up to the maximum speed the 52V battery would get me to(~37mph) and then flip a switch that used relays to swap to 84V from the converter. This got me to 54mph down a hill which was absolutely insane to be doing on a $200 Walmart bike... Only down side was it put a lot of stress on my poor battery and if I tried to accelerate from a stop with the 84V it would pop the boost converter's fuse.

Indeed, you could have used resettable fuses instead 32A rating. You'd have to max out the current on the potentiometer, but you can't pull more than 22A @ 84V unless you add an extra constantan shunt in parrallel on the output. There are boost converters that can be parralled with communication protocol, but they cost 10x more than this dumb boost converter.

I just bought someones project that had been left in a shed for 2 years, its slightly corroded and used but i got a great deal. Got the full bbshd with lekkie hd40 chainring and lekkie drive cover, eggrider, CA3 with shunt and a 48v 19ah battery all mounted on a carbon bike. Need to rewire the battery and then get it to where you are with yours. Need for speed baby

Nice nice the lekkie stuff is expensive! so i bet you got a good deal second hand. The parts of the bbshd can be easily replaced on ali express. Good call 👍 If you want speed voltage is the key 🔑 and tire diameter. A controller with Field weakening required also. Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions hit me up Bro 😎 🤙

@EBikeBuilder_ thanks for the quick reply, i paid £300 for the whole bike and charger. I've removed a lot of mess from the overkill state it was in and it functions perfectly with PAS and throttle etc. Only problem I've come across is that I can't activate the eggridder with the android app to set it up due to not having the activation details, I've removed the shunt and cycle analyst 3 off as I'm trying to get it to be as stealthy as possible for UK and also need to get it to the legal limit of 15.5mph (I know its not ideal for this motor but I'm not about racing it, just A 2 B)

I'm hoping I can get it setup without getting a USB interface to do it, getting someone else's project that's been upgraded without knowing anything about BEFANG in the first place took 2 weeks of reading 200 web pages just to understand what's been done and why 🤣

i have the phaserunner set to 4600W. but without any heat sinks, it switches to the Phaserunner Hot mode quite fast. and i think that limits it to under 4000w. more like 3600W or something

Building a new bike this year. Have pre-ordered 2 of the brand new Grin 45mm All Axel front and back motors. The rear motor can have pas or torque sensor. I have not decided yet which to pick but will probably pick pas sensor as I am probably going to add a Bbshd and don't think a torque sensor would be appropriate. Should be able to get great power as the 45mm Grin All Axel can push a 40 foot sail boat no problem. You have 3 profile settings maybe try that with 52v setup.

Yeah thats the new fat hub right? It looks cool 😎 that should be an exciting build mate!! So are you putting al 3 motors on one bike?? That would be Nuts!! 🥜

I had no idea this was possible. My grocery getter can switch between 36 and 48 in the settings but going from 52 to 72 is really neat

Yeah its just got battery A and B, so its limited to 2 configurations. But its nice being able to use different voltages with a quick change in the settings.

@EBikeBuilder_ that's cool. So you can pick the voltage on a and b, whatever they are.

That is one beautiful area . You're so lucky to be able to drive with that scenery. The streets looks so nice and smooth. As far as batteries go. You're correct it's only 2P. I wish I knew all the techie stuff. I just finish a 52 V and before I use it I'm going to try to build another one so that they're both brand new to start and parallel them up. I'm going to try to time how long this one takes me. I was faster on the last one. How long does it take you to build a big battery? What was your top speed? Was it 42 or 43?

Battery building is labor intensive lol its a lot of connections to make. And need to be in a certain fresh state of mind. Its tedious doing the same thing repeatedly. When i build mine its usually in a few separate sessions lol. For my 72v 20ah build, probably the good part of a day. The bbshd with this 46:42 gearing and 29” wheels I’ve seen it going 43mph before. I generally try to gear it for as much torque as possible that can still do 40mph

hiya ,just curious what you capped the current at ?
@EBikeBuilder_
@EBikeBuilder_ 4 ай бұрын
on the cycle analyst you can limit the current and/or power, i usually limit the power, and the amps depend on the voltage. its at 4600W, but when the phaserunner hot throttles it goes down to 3600W or something

Try get a 1800w modded boost converter with 3x32A resettable fuses, extra shunt. Set it at 86v output, limit controller current at 25A/30A max, you'll never experience voltage sag after that mod.

a better option that we use on our bikes is we put a supper capacitor pack the same voltage as battery in parralell better accelaration,recouping 100% of regen power,much faster and safer charging

now we have up to possible 650 dc amps continuous to draw from, with 12 p of 45 amp MOLIE cells and 86 volts

Interesting, you ever seen a capacitor exploding? How do keep them safely contained? Do you have a prototype to show? That mod implies you need a regen capable controller but I don't see it happening on bbshd since it has freewheeling when coasting...

diminishing returns, on the 70v+ not worth the esc money and Hussle tbh. A 11t cog would probably give you the same speed anyway, you are always riding on flat so it will be fine, just learn how to change speeds without breaking the shifting system and you will be fine. More speed cogs also means you can optimize for a more efficient ride and the bike can has more range. BBSHD becomes really inefficient when in low RPMS which is why when you downgraded to 52V the system reached its limits because voltage=rotations (Kv rating) a lower cog could have fixed this.

flipsky 7500 pro v2 can do 72v and its like 100 bucks. So the foc sine wave controller prices are becoming more affordable. It makes the 50 to 100usd square wave metal box controllers less attractive
