BCB Mini Cooker, thought I would give it a go. Its lightweight, cheap and does the job. Great for preparedness, bug out bags or even just a day out if you only need to boil enough water for a brew.

I've been using the larger folding BCB cooker for a few years now. Using a proper wind shield with it helps enormously IME. I'd imagine the same would apply to the mini cooker. I use both the blocks and the gel and don't really see any performance difference between them. I have tried Vango gel and that didn't perform as well as the Fire Dragon gel for some strange reason.

Nice review, I got one of these when they first came out and for £2 it's excellent. My own observations... 1. It burns cleaner than the bigger folding stove (less residue on pots) 2. At 33p each, i think the price of the blocks isn't bad, considering the convenience of them for carrying and handling 3. It will boil 500ml as long as there is no breeze (ie, use a surrounding wind shield) 4. Although my preference is a pocket gas stove, I'd absolutely recommend this for winter camping as the blocks light immediately, first time, on sub-zero temperatures (unlike gas and liquid ethanol)

I like to use half a block at a time. It’s far more efficient as less heat is wasted. It’s a great cheap, lightweight piece of kit. Thanks for the input 👍

Doesn’t the fire lighting gel tend to leak out the sides as it heats up and gets less viscous? I tried meths in the larger BCB, it drained out the joins because they aren’t air tight, as it were. The BCB gel looks to be thicker than the fire lighting gel you have, the BCB stuff has gelatine or something in, that seems to seal the gaps.

Hi Matt, excellent observation, I had no problem with the gel I used. However, I used this after using a BCB fuel tab. It is quite possible that the residue from the BCB tab filled the gaps. Not used the BCB gel so will get some and try it out.
