I might be wrong, but for what I have seen on your videos, he might've take longer than expected, not because it was hard, or he didn't get it. I think it was because of the respect he has for you. He didn't wanted to mess up. and needed to be sure of what you really wanted. Great dog, great trainer. I've seen many of your leash reactivity videos, and they still amaze me. You make it seem so easy. They get it so fast!

This is how I trained my cats to use the cat door!

I used to have a pack of 5 collies when I was a child. They learnt to open the door by themselves (lever handle). If we wanted to keep them outside we had to lock the door.

i taught my dog the trick of push it, am planning to try that at the door for that final push concept

Love your videos. My question is not specific to a dog door - but a sliding glass door like you have there... Our 70 lb GSD pup (10 mos old) jumps on ours to get back in the house, with gusto.... This is not when someone is out there with him and could train him an alternate behavior; but if we are in the house and he sees us. He has already ruined the screen and we fear the glass and frame will be ruined also. This is not him being outside alone for lengthy periods of time; I could run in for something and if he wants in with me, or if he sees our other dog inside and gets excited, he does this. Any advice?

Ok, that was great, Prince is an awesome dog . He’s a larger dog. I have an 8 pound and a 10 pound dog. The weight of the flap of the door is too much. Any suggestions how I can get past the flat being so freaking heavy. Thx..

What size door is that ?

I have two greyhounds. One is new to our pack and learning the dog door for the new hound is a challenge. Our door leads out but down 6 brick steps. He goes up and down steps fine. He goes through the flap when it’s lifted completely for him. But if the flap is not completely up he will not go through. I believe he is afraid of the door/stairs combo. Any advice to help him overcome this fear?

I noticed that when he went through the door on his own for the first time you clapped, don’t do this because to Prince that’s just a bunch of scary noise. I would advise a lot more happy reinforcement - like you his cheerleader!🥳 and give him LOTS of his favorite treats!!!🦴

Could one not just put five female dogs in heat on the other side of the doggie door? I would assume Prince would fly through the doggie door first try, no training necessary.
