This video is great for all the half Filipinos or pure Filipinos who grew up abroad but never learned Bisaya. It's so hard to find resources or proper lessons online in order to learn. Thank you ma'am. Been in the PH for a total of 7 years but still can't fully speak Bisaya. Understanding is better though, about 75% right now. Please make more videos, Ate.

Thank you so much, I'm a full-blooded Filipino who wanted to learn bisaya because my parents/relatives are from Mindanao and I was born in Luzon (until now), so tagalog is my mother tongue. The good news is that when my parents having a bisaya conversation, I can understand them what they are saying. however, when I have a conversation with my bisaya cousin, I can't speak fluently like them until I see this video which helps me to be a fluent bisaya like them. I wanted to suprise my relatives I guess wish me luck

It's kind of new to me that people are wanting to learn more about bisaya. They might be a little confuse since there are a lot of expression and slangs like, (formal) unsa imong pangalan? (slang and informal) unsa imong ngalan? (formal) kanus-a ka natawo? (informal) kanus-a ka gipanganak? (formal) salamat. (slang and informal) lamat. (formal) pag-amping. (informal) amping.

This is super helpful as a Filipino from the states that has recently moved to Cebu (parents went back home to PH and retire there and I had to tag along). It's really difficult to find resources on learning Bisaya as Tagalog is a more prevalent Filipino language to learn for foreigners who would like to visit the country. I'm so glad that I now have the resources to learn and get better instead of speaking and understanding so little of the language with little/slow progress especially when my F2F uni classes will be coming up next academic year, and I'd like to understand my classmates and not feel too left out. Thank you so much for your videos!

Thanks so much for all of these lessons. Takes a lot of commitment to put all of this together; especially considering Cebuano isn't on the "must-learn" list of languages for most people....everyone's trying to learn Japanese (which is fine) but you're actually benefitting me greatly since I've met a Cebuano speaker and we've become friends so, during the time she isn't available to teach me a few phrases here and there, I like that I can just come here and recap everything.

But jokes on them I picked up most of the basics since my grandmother spoke to us in Bisaya and they spoke to each other in Bisaya. I basically heard all the good tea (gossip), not as fluent but enough to get by with context clues xD. The only thing hard for me is speaking it fluently in full bisaya considering I'm a nursing student at the moment in the Philippines and I need to learn the deep words asap. hALP ;^;

I am Tagalog, and lived in Bohol for a month. I find Bisaya much easier to learn than Ilokano or Kapampangan because its much closer to Tagalog. The rules are almost the same. Just different vocabulary. I learned quickly within a few days. Of course I am not as fluent as a native speaker and they can tell I am Tagalog because of my accent. But it is well appreciated. We are going to visit Davao next month and I will need to polish my Bisaya again. None of my family members understand anything in Bisaya.

I always wanted to learn bisaya since my mom's side of the family is from Bohol. I've tried to learn from my cousins and read books that my mom gave me, but it never really stuck. Wow this is so refreshing haha. I speak Bisaya myself, but I moved countries about 6 years ago, so I've lost quite alot of my language skills. I'm not as fluent as before, and I have a hard time remembering deep words or basic sentence structures in general. And to point out that almost all immigrant Filipinos speak Tagalog with barely anyone speaking Bisaya, so I can't speak to anyone other than my mom and brother.

BUT BISAYA IS NOT A LANGUAGE WHAT IS BISAYA? It is a language family that consists of different Bisaya languages that are spoken in the Bisaya Islands (Visayas) and Mindanao. The different Bisaya languages are Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Waray, Karay-a, Capiznon, Aklanon, Surigaonon and many others which are examples of languages classified as belonging to the Bisayan linguistic family. HOW MANY BISAYA ISLANDS ARE THERE? Panay, Romblon, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, Guimaras, Masbate, Leyte, and Samar WHAT ARE THE BISAYA LANGUAGES SPOKEN IN THE BISAYA ISLANDS (VISAYAS) AND MINDANAO? Hiligaynon, Cebuano, Waray, Aklanon, Capiznon, Kinaray-a, Bantoanon, Romblomanon, Cuyonon, Asi, Baybayano, Kinabalian, Bantayanon, Porohanon, Cuyunon, Caluyanon, Surigaonon, Butoanon, Tausug, Ratagnon, Inonhan, and other Bisaya languages. Bisaya Island of Panay: Hiligaynon is the spoken Bisaya language in Iloilo and Roxas, Kinaray-a is the spoken Bisaya language in Antique and parts of Iloilo. Aklanon is the spoken Bisaya language in Aklan Capiznon and Hiligaynon are the spoken Bisaya languages in Capiz. Bisaya Island of Negros: Cebuano is the spoken Bisaya language in Negros Oriental. Hiligaynon is the spoken Bisaya language in Negros Occidental. Bisaya Island of Cebu. Cebuano is the spoken Bisaya language in Cebu Province. Bisaya Island of Bohol Boholano (local version of Cebuano language). Bisaya Island of Leyte: Waray is the spoken Bisaya language in Northern Leyte. Cebuano is the spoken Bisaya language in Western and Southern parts of Leyte. Bisaya Island of Samar: Waray is the spoken Bisaya language in Northern and Eastern Samar. Bisaya Island of Romblon: Rombloanon is the spoken Bisaya language in Romblon. Other languages are Asi and Onhan Bisaya Island of Masbate: People of Masbate speak 4 Bisaya languages: Masbateño Hiligaynon Cebuano Waray Bisaya Island of Romblon: Rombloanon is the spoken Bisaya language in Romblon. Mindanao Cebuano is the spoken Bisaya language in Zambonga Del Sur, Zambonga Del Norte, Zambonga Sibugay, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Davao Del Norte, Davao Del Sur, Davao De Oro, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Sarangani, South Cotabato, Dinagat Islands, Surigao Del Norte, Bukidnon. Hiligaynon is the spoken Bisaya language in Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Sarangani. Surigaonon is the spoken Bisaya language in Surigao Del Sur. Butuanon is the spoken Bisaya language in Butuan. Tausug is the spoken Bisaya language in Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur, Sulu, Basilan. HOW DID THE ILONGGO, KARAY-A, AND CEBUANO PEOPLE SPREAD IN MINDANAW? Many Cebuanos moved to Mindanao during President Elpidio Quirino’s proclamation No. 376, or Philippine resettlement program, on March 10, 1953. This is the reason why today 90% of Mindanao people speak the Cebuano language. Other Bisaya people who came to Mindanao were the Ilonggos and Kinaray-aand Kinaray-a from Iloilo in Panay; they settled around Cotabato and brought with them the Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a languages. Other Bisaya languages spoken in Mindanao are Surigaonon and Butuanon. The Ilocanos, Tagalogs, and other people of Luzon also settled in Mindanao and learned the Cebuano language. HOW DID THE ILONGGO PEOPLE ARRIVED IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL ? Landlords from Iloilo brought Ilonggos to Negros starting in 1800’s , this branch have undergone transformations especially those who worked in vast haciendas WHAT ARE THE TOP 3 MOST SPOKEN BISAYA LANGUAGES? (1.) Cebuano 21 million; (2.) Hiligaynon 10 million; (3.) Waray 3 million; To Learn more about Bisaya Ethnicities and Languages read bsatech.wordpress.com/2023/03/05/bisaya/

@@fredbigornia1814 FYI BISAYA did not originate in Cebu - pag abot sa mga Spaniards sa Pinas na discover nila na daghan ug Bisaya languages sa islands nag katag like sa Samar, Leyte, Panay, ug Cebu mao gi nganlan nila the whole area ug BISAYA islands How did Visayas get its name? Visayas is the spanish term for Bisaya. They call these Islands Bisaya (Visayas) because their languages have very similar Bisaya words. “But the proper name of these islands is the Bisayas. Many tongues are spoken in them, for there are many islands and many villages, and there is hardly a village that has not its own dialect. But the chief tongues are the Boholan, which is spoken in Sugbú, and the Hiligain, and they are very similar.” (Fray Juan de Medina, 1630). History of the Augustinian Order in the Filipinas Islands by Fray Juan de Medina a native of Sevilla, prior of the monastery of Santo Nio de Ceb and past minister to the communities of Ibahay, Aclán, Dumangas, Passi, and Panay. In 1630, he wrote the document himself. Osa pa bai Waray ang una na publish na First Bisaya Dictionary 2 seconday lang Cebuano The first ever Bisaya dictionary is Waray the “Vocabulario de la Lengua Bisaya” by Mateo Sanchez, which was completed in 1616. A Spanish friar named Mateo Sanchez was stationed to Dulag, Leyte (he also worked in the surrounding territories of Eastern Visayas). The dialect of Binisaya used there was recorded. His “Arte” is a dictionary as a result of the language’s dominance in the text. His book is divided into two halves. A Bisaya-Spanish dictionary is included in the first section, while a Spanish-Bisaya dictionary is included in the second. In the first part, some Cebuano words are mentioned by Sanchez, and he would always say that a certain word is either from Zebu (Cebu) or Bool (Bohol). In the second part, for every Spanish entry, the Visayan equivalents are almost always in pairs. One in Waray, and the one beside it in Cebuano. There could be two or more pairs,” and it’s always the Waray words that come before the Cebuano words. Is Bisaya a language? No. It is a language family consisting of languages spoken in the Visayas and northern Mindanao. Bisayan languages include Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Waray, Karay-a, and Surigaonon, among others.
